Space Exhibition!
Yesterday, year 5 acted as tour guides in their space exhibition. They were presenting space themed artwork and poetry, as well as space themed cam mechanism toys. It was great to see so many family members turning up to have a look!
Jubilee Celebration Tree
In celebration of the Diamond Jubilee this year, the whole school gathered to watch the planting of a special tree in our school grounds. The 'Strawberry' tree was planted in our new learning garden area by the oldest and youngest pupils in the school. It is an evergreen that could grow to around 10 metres and bears strawberry like fruit in the summer. We hope that in 60 years time, lots of our pupils might come back to see the tree and remember the occasion.

Super Science day in Year 2!
Written by Maurice (Year 2)
On the 28th of May 2012 Year 2 did a Science day with 6 experiments. My favourite experiment was the balloon activity then the cars and ramps then the tray activity and then it continues. In the acrobat activity the acrobats were really hard to knock over.
In the orange activity it was really hard to balance the orange on the base and make the orange fall right into the cup. Whilst my group were doing the tray activity, all of the races the objects did, the rubber always won because it was the last to fall of the tray.
On Wednesday our parents will be visiting our classroom to see our Science projects.

The Tate Bitterne!
Well done to all of Year 6 who created some fantastic art work as part of their Pop Art topic. Our classroom became a mini art gallery in order for us to display it all! Thank you to the parents who came to see it.
Year 4 as poets!
Year 4 enjoyed visiting our local library, Cobbett Road, and presented the librarians with a book of poems written by us! We even performed one of the poems we'd learnt by heart. We've been studying a story written in verse called Cloud Busting by Malorie Blackman. We had a chance to read a selection of our poems before we had a story read to us.
Our previous book study centred around the story I was a Rat by Philip Pullman. We loved all the role-play and writing activities! At the end of our unit of work, we presented our favourite pieces to Year 5.
Earlier on this term, we visited the Art Gallery to see and sketch different styles of portraits for ourselves. Year 4 had a chance to create their own portraits whilst there too. The completed features on their wire abstract portraits promoted much discussion! An interesting trip. A big 'thank you' to all Year 4s parent helpers this term.

Bitterne Manor shows swimming skills!
Over the last few weeks, year 5 have been visiting Bitterne Leisure Centre every afternoon to practise their swimming skills! They have all shown perseverance and determination in their attempts to improve! On Friday most of us went to the swimming pool for the last time. We were given the opportunity to play with floats and have a go on the flumes! However, six children from year 5 were joined by some children in year 6 to make the school very proud of them at a swimming gala involving other schools at the Quays. Well done all of you!

Years 5 & 6 enjoyed a special R.E. day based on the Christian miracle stories. The day was led by Chris, Paul and Neil from Southampton City Mission and involved inventive practical activities linked to the messages behind the stories (including mummy racing!). In the afternoon Year 6 created some excellent collages to represent the stories they had heard.

Year 6 go orienteering!
Year 6 had a great day at Itchen Valley Country Park. This SATs rewards trip gave them the opportunity to relax after all their hard work and take part in an orienteering competition around the park. The weather was amazing and a good time was had by all!

Year 6 Art Gallery Trip
Year 6 enjoyed a fantastic workshop at the Southampton City Art Gallery. They were shown how to use printmaking techniques in the style of Pop Artist Andy Warhol to re-create an image of the Queen. The artist leading the workshop was very impressed with the prints made by the children! They will go on display in Year 6 classroom.

Sholing Win the Hampshire Cup!
Sholing Whites Under 11's finished a remarkable season by winning the Hampshire Cup, in doing so they completed a clean sweep of all the trophies, finishing with the treble.
The Hampshire Cup final on Sunday was again a tight affair with both teams having their moments in the game, both sets of of players again putting a tremendous amount of effort into the game and the quality of football on show was a credit to any under 11's game of football.
Sholing started the game very brightly and indeed the first goal arrived on three minutes when Bitterne Manors very own Ryan Puckett ran through from 40 yards out to unleash a 20 yard shot that flew into the bottom far corner. The game then was played mostly in midfield with both defences being on top and very few chances for the forwards. At full time the score was 2-2. The match went in to extra time and Sholing scored making the FINAL SCORE 3-2.
Well Done!

Minibeast Hunt
Year R's new topic is 'Bugs'. We enjoyed hunting for bugs around the school grounds- and found a variety of different ones! We looked at them very carefully and drew and wrote about them. Many thanks to our student, Ellis, for all your help.

Your Vouchers Needed!
Year 6 were hard at work this lunchtime counting the vouchers that you've donated to us. We've managed to collect over 3800 vouchers so far but we reckon that there's a few more thousand out there somewhere...
Please check bags, wallets, cars, grannies and the guinea pig for any Sainsbury's vouchers that might have been missed. We need them all by this Thursday!
Thanks for your support.

Hampshire Fire Service visit
Years 5 and 6 enjoyed a visit from the Fire Service. They learnt about the causes of fire by exploring a fire damaged room. They will now be checking their homes carefully for hazards! The children also discussed the consequences of peer pressure and the dangers of arson. It was a very thought provoking day for everyone.
