Miss Vaughan gets married!

Miss Vaughan got married on Friday 29th July! Didn't she look beautiful? Congratulations to her and new husband Mark.
Miss Vaughan now has a new surname and will be MRS HEMNELL from September!

Yesterday afternoon we held a tea party in honour of all of those who have provided us with help and support over the last year - whether it's fund raising, hearing readers, driving the minibus or supporting a school trip we are very grateful for your support and our school wouldn't be the same without you! Thanks to each and every one of you!

Paulton's Park

Year 6 enjoyed a fantastic day out at Paulton's Park as an end of year reward for all their hard work. A big thank you to all our helpers who joined in the fun on the rides!

Year 6 Production

Year 6 performed their leaver's production of Bugsy Malone to friends and family. The show was excellent - well done to everyone! The highlight of the performance was most definately 'splurging' gangsters with silly string and foam!

Story Telling Day

Today we have had a Story Telling Day. Everybody dressed up as a character from a book, film or T.V.programme and spent the day taking part in a varity of activities. These included sharing stories using objects the children had brought in, making story sacks and boxes, making up and retelling stories using actions to other year groups, and listening to a visiting story teller!

Year 4 Evacuation Day

It was time to turn back time in year 4 on Thursday 21st June. The class (and adults) came to school in '1940's' dress ready for Evacuation Day. During register the sirens sounded and we quickly went into the air raid shelter. We were horrified to see the bomb damage to the classroom when we returned. For our safetey we were evacuated to other classrooms. During our evacuation, we cooked with rations (thank you Mrs S!!) and painted war posters with watercolour.

In the afternoon, we held a VE party celebration in assembly, sharing the work we have done over the past half term.

Summer Fair

Last Friday was Summer Fair 2011! The weather held out for us and the field was home to an amazing event set up and organised by our hard working PTA! We had fantastic support from our whole community and thanks to all of you who came along and took part. The result of our fund raising efforts was a whopping £1400! Well done everyone!

Imperial War Museum

Year Four had a really exciting trip last week - we went by coach to London to the Imperial War Museum. We had to get to school at 7.45am earlier than normal. The coach left at 8am. It wasn't long before the endless supply of snacks came out!!! Eventually we arrived and were greeted by the sight of the big guns at the front of the museum. Inside there was lots of things to see....postcards, letters, guns, uniforms, posters, models, more guns, planes dangling from the ceiling, tanks and so much more! In the World War One section, we could walk through a life sized model of a section of trench and in the World War Two section, we walked through a lifesized model replica of a 1940's house. We saw lots to do with evacuation and what it might have been like for children in the war. It was a really great day out...but a long one!!!!!!!

Selling Southampton!

Year 5's advertising campaign is well underway! We have created TV adverts persuading holiday makers to travel to Southampton and have created our very own tour guides to go alongside the Walk the Walls tour experience. Look below for a few examples of our work!

Mpanda says 'hi'

 

This is Mpanda who we are supporting to go to school. His headteacher is Grosper, one of our Maasi visitors last term.
The building in the background is one of the classrooms. The Tanzanian flag is flying and every morning the children salute the national flag before starting school.
In the background you can see the expanse of land that the school is set in.

The Bare Necessities!

Here is a short clip of one of our pupils performing 'Bare Necessities' at our recent music concert. This amazing playing should make us all appreciate the value of supporting our children in taking up a music instrument! Well done, Nathan!

Tudor Tales

Year 3 enjoyed writing their own playscripts and creating a shadow puppet theatre for parents. They included historical facts and a lot of humour! Well done Year 3.

Year R try out the Tyre Park

Year R are the first class to test out the new Tyre Park:
"Wow this is so cool!".
"It's fun and we have to take turns."
"I like the big, round tyres because you can bounce on them like a trampolene."

Summer Musical Extravaganza!

Congratualtions to our talented musicians who performed at the Summer Concert last night. They made us and their parents very proud!

Walk the walls!

This week saw year 5 walking the walls in Southampton! We found out lots of interesting information about the medieval walls, including lots of gory details about how the walls were defended! We have used the information we have found out to create our very own guide books about the walls of Southampton!

New Tyre Park Installed!

Thanks partly to contributions from our PTA and your support, a brand new tyre park is being installed on the school field for the children to enjoy! A tyre park is an outside play area made up of brand new heavy duty tyres which are then fastened to the ground either in halves or on their sides to make a great play area.



The design for our area was an idea from one of our school councillors. They were shown around the play area as it was being fitted and talked to the installers about their work.
