There's something new in the playground...

It has arrived... we have finally taken delivery of our new minibus which looks absolutely brilliant!  Thanks to everyone who has supported us in making this happen. Of course, we still need your support to continue funding it in the future. In the meantime, we can't wait to see it being used!

Butterfly Fundraiser - Friends of Bitterne Station

Dear parents and carers,

You might have seen a colourful butterfly on your walk to school (footbridge between Quayside Road and Athlestand Road). This is the work of artists Joanna Rose Tidey, the first of 11 artworks to appear in our community in the next ten months as part of a community art project led by Friends of Bitterne Station (FoBS) and funded by South West Railways Community Improvement funds.

While the SWR funds cover the costs of Joanna's work and materials, FoBS have started a fundraiser to buy anti-graffiti paint to cover Joanna's work so that they will not get damaged (read more here:http://www.cobbettroad.info/nature-all-around-us.html). Many local families have already contributed by sponsoring a small butterfly.

For £10 you can sponsor a small butterfly on the long wall by Joanna's mural, choose the colours and have your initials (or the one of a dear one) added.

If you would like to sponsor a butterfly, email bitternestationhub@gmail.com
They are collecting requests until Tuesday18th of July to add more butterflies next week.
Or you can visit them at Bitterne Station this Sunday (10 am-12) and you can make your donation then.

Thank you for your support,
Friends of Bitterne Station

Autumnal Tidy-up of the Wild River Itchen

Saturday 5th November 2022 10am-2pm

Chessel Bay should be an excellent habitat for nature, but is also strewn with rubbish - much of which is plastic, brought by the tides - which is not only unsightly but dangerous for wildlife. There are big things happening with projects to help reduce ‘nurdle’and other local pollution here - but litter-picks are still an important part of the overall efforts - especially as we have been unable to run large events for a couple of years now!

If you would like to come and help with our ‘Autumn-Clean’ at Chessel Bay, it would greatly improve the habitat for the wildlife which depends on the Nature Reserve. So, we hope to see you there.

Help to ‘turn the tide’ on plastic pollution at Chessel Bay!

Chessel Bay is situated at the end of Quayside Rd, S018 1DP, near Bitterne Manor School. Please wear old clothes. Under 16s need to be accompanied by a responsible adult. N.B. Parking is very restricted and there are no toilets on site.

For more information contact Hawthorns Urban Wildlife Centre - 023 8067 1921 or email hawthorns@southampton.gov.uk
