Lots of fun in Kingfisher class!
We have been very busy looking after our pet caterpillars! We were very lucky to watch them eat, spin silk and grow bigger! They then hung upside down and harden into chrysalides. We were then very excited to come into school to see that they had transformed into beautiful butterflies! We watched them for a day and gave them some fresh fruit to eat. We then released them!

SUPER Swifts board the Titanic!
Well...today my Swifties decided to board the RMS Titanic! Each child picked a ticket (first class, second class or third class) this was pot luck so they were very excited to see who they'd be taking the role on as. Once picked, they made their way to the hall which had been transformed into the dining deck of the Titanic. The three zones were separated into first, second and third class, it was all very exciting! Each passenger got a taste of what life was like for the role they picked. What a fantastic opportunity it was! Children will write about their experience tomorrow... can't wait to see what they write! Take a peek at the fun from earlier...

Swifts and Swallows are 'BIRD-TASTIC!'
What an exciting start to the week Year 2 have had today! The AMEW's Falconry were invited in to teach us all about the different birds of prey found in our area and linked to our topic this half term, 'Into the Forest.' Mandy and Paul really loved the children's questions and awarded them gold stars for their enthusiasm. Well done super Swifts and Swallows, we are very proud! Here are some highlights from today's visit...be prepared though as the video is very scream-ish...

Owls fly to Itchen Valley!
Phew - what a day! Owls class flew all the way to Itchen Valley today for an amazing day of Science and Geography. This morning they went on a woodland walk to identify trees such as oak and beech and to compare what we know about rain forests to a more local one. They also got the opportunity to do a "meadow sweep", which was the highlight for many! They caught shield bugs, crickets, grasshoppers and even snails!
This afternoon they went on a trail around the park looking for clues to crack the code! We were particularly looking for non-flowering plants and how they reproduce - finding spores on ferns and male and female pine cones. We had the chance to closely observe and sketch them to help with our learning on life cycles in Science.
They had a fantastic day, made possible by our helpers, so a big "Thank you" to them. The children were exceptionally well behaved too, so well done Owls!

Nightingales Stone Age Day!
Nightingales went back to the Stone Age on Friday! We had our own archaeologist log book and learnt how to research the past. We learnt about Stone Age burials and how they changed over time, the clothing they used, and the fact that the 'modern day' T-shirt is actually a 300,000 year old invention! We dug for our own artifacts and analysed them, created our own Stone Age art, understood how Stone Agers radically changed the British landscape and learnt about Stone Age food - they were actually very healthy and always had their 5 a day!

Carnival Crazy!
Another massive well done to the children in Nightingales class who produced some excellent home projects for our topic 'Carnival'.
Here are some of us in our masks and headdresses! As well as this, we also made carinval games and did lots of research.
Excellent job!
