Nightingales Stone Age Day!

Nightingales went back to the Stone Age on Friday! We had our own archaeologist log book and learnt how to research the past. We learnt about Stone Age burials and how they changed over time, the clothing they used, and the fact that the 'modern day' T-shirt is actually a 300,000 year old invention! We dug for our own artifacts and analysed them, created our own Stone Age art, understood how Stone Agers radically changed the British landscape and learnt about Stone Age food - they were actually very healthy and always had their 5 a day!

Nightingales become Archaeologists

Today, Nightingales were visited by Tricia from Creative Histories, who led us on a Stone Age journey!
We started off by thinking about how long ago the Stone Age period really was, by creating a human timeline.
We then thought about all the things that a Stone Age person would have had with them when they were buried, reflecting the things that they would have had in their life. Some of us tried on some clothes, and all of us were able to handle the artefacts, drawing them in our log books and labelling them. ALL of us became Master Historians by asking questions about the objects and comparing them using Venn diagrams- Tricia said that it was very unusual for a whole class to achieve this- well done Nightingales!

In the afternoon, we took part in 3 activities- learning about food, ochre cave paintings and discovering artefacts by digging in sand.

We had a brilliant day- thanks to the team from Creative Histories for making it so fun!
