All is well at PGL! They've arrived safely and after a good night's sleep (It's true - apparently!), the children are all doing well and enjoying their activities today. I'll be visiting tomorrow so will bring back some more pictures. I'm sure they're all missing us a lot...

Voting is open! We need your support!
The PTA have submitted a proposal to the Aviva Community Fund to try and secure funding for an All-Weather, Multi-Purpose Pitch on our playing field. The proposal has just been approved and we could be in with a chance of being granted up to £25,000!
The next stage in the process is to gather as many votes as possible for our project - the projects with the most votes get through to the finals, where a panel of judges will decide whether our cause is worthy of funding. Voting is open now at https://community-fund.aviva.co.uk/voting/project/view/17-5946 and we are now encouraging you to spread the word to your friends and families to drum up as many votes as possible. Everyone who registers on the Aviva website gets 10 votes - and you are allowed to use all 10 on the same project - so please take a moment to register and give as many votes as you can to our Banish the Mud campaign!
Please see this short video, created by the PTA as part of the submission, which helps to explain what we're trying to achieve: https://vimeo.com/ 237459541.
Many thanks in advance for your votes - every single one really does count to give us any chance of getting to the finals! We'll keep you updated with our progress.
Encouragre everyone to follow this link:

Neighbourhood Advice
We are the Bitterne Park Neighbourhood Policing Team and this is our monthly bulletin providing crime prevention advice and updates on issues within your local area.
Now the darker evenings are drawing in, this often increases the opportunities for homes to be left in darkness during the late afternoon whilst householders are still at work. Don’t make your absence easy for burglars to spot by doing the following:
- Use timer switches, available at most DIY stores, to switch on lights and radios while you are away from the home to make it look occupied. (Keep your bills down by using energy saving bulbs).
- Ensure you shut and lock your doors and windows.
- Only tell the people who you trust if your home will be empty for a period of time.
- Do not leave your personal belongings on display.
- Property mark your belongings with your house number and post code, keep a list of any makes, models and serial numbers.
- Register your items for free at www.immobilise.com. This service assists us to return your property to the rightful owner in the event it is lost or stolen.

Mrs Carter's wet!
Today we tested our prediction for which material would make the best coat for Mrs Carter. First we tested Mrs Carters trousers. They are not waterproof. We tested the bubblewrap and it kept her leg dry. Take a look at some of our photos. We had great fun getting her wet!!

Swifts and Swallows are 'BIRD-TASTIC!'
What an exciting start to the week Year 2 have had today! The AMEW's Falconry were invited in to teach us all about the different birds of prey found in our area and linked to our topic this half term, 'Into the Forest.' Mandy and Paul really loved the children's questions and awarded them gold stars for their enthusiasm. Well done super Swifts and Swallows, we are very proud! Here are some highlights from today's visit...be prepared though as the video is very scream-ish...

Dance day
This week Nightingales had their dance day. They worked together as a whole class to create a dance with Miss Joseph to the tune of 'Ghostbusters'. The children also worked together to develop their own steps. The day was a success and the children danced really well and remembered all the steps!
Year 4 trip to Testwood Lakes.
Today Year 4 visited Testwood Lakes! In the morning we went down to the River Test. Here we were able to see the different features of a river we have been learning about in class. Later on we played a game where we recreated the water cycle! Using buckets and pipes, we passed the water around the cycle and tried not to waste any water along the way. Finally we went into the woods and completed some orienteering. We used maps to locate numbered points in the woods and found the pictures that matched the numbers at each point.
Overall we all had a fun filled day in the sun!
Old toys
We have had a very exciting week this week looking at a selection of old from hampshire county. We have looked at the toys, talked about the materials they were made from and had a go at playing with some. It was really interesting for us all, including the adults.
