Scare the cars away

Across the school this week we have worked hard for road safety week. The BUG group have worked really well and as a nice ending to the week we had a scare the cars day. All the children across the school created masks. They all looked amazing. Well done everyone.

Marvellous medicine making!

Wow, what a week year 2 have had! We have been looking at George's Marvellous Medicine in our Guided Reading and English sessions.  As part of a compelling learning opportunity, Swifts were given a chance to get creative this week! In English, it was all about recipes so it gave us the chance to look at all the important things needed to write one.  It tied in nicely with Anti-bullying week as we wanted to make an anti bullying medicine for a particular character from the book.  In order to use the features learnt, we were then able to make our very own marvellous medicine.  They truly were... REVOLTING and as Mrs Hayward and Mr Adams put it, GHASTLY! They very kindly came in to see what the end outcome looked like.  I think Roald Dahl would've been proud! See for yourself, if you dare...

Reading buddies

Nightingales, Puffins and Kingfishers started reading together last week. It was so lovely to see our older children reading and enjoying books with the younger children. All 3 classes were so sensible and promoting a love of reading. It's our new favourite time of the week!

Year 6 Home Learning Projects

A huge well done to Year 6 who have produced some amazing Home Learning Projects about the Vikings! They have enjoyed finding out about this period in History and have created some fantastic models, fact sheets, timelines and stories.

Scare the Cars Away!

On the 27th November. we are inviting children to take part in a "Scare the Cars Away" initiative run by Southampton City. The aim of this day is to encourage the children to travel actively to school, to celebrate Road Safety Week and to ‘scare the cars away’. We hope to see a dramatic reduction in car numbers on the day and most importantly teach the children that active travel can be a lot of fun!

Obviously, it is not our intention to encourage children to actually scare cars...!

Instead, we will be asking the children to make 'scary' mask and writing an acrostic poem. Please watch out for our letter in the next few days for the details! We would like you to encourage your children to take part in the poetry competition – the closing date is Friday 18th November - and there's a chance to win a prize scooter!

Thank you for taking part.
