Farewell, not Goodbye

Mrs Hemnell has amazed us all by managing to continue working to the very end of her pregnancy term.  In Assembly she was presented with an abundance of baby paraphernalia, which we are sure will be very useful in the coming weeks. We wish her and Mr Hemnell all the very best and will await some good news very soon.

Young sports ambassadors (YSAs)

Our new team of sports ambassadors were selected and announced in assembly. The children will promote and celebrate sports and PE at Bitterne Manor.  Well done for your successful applications.

Top Tent day!

A massive well done to year 6 today!

We spent the day creating our shelters that we had designed in our DT lessons.  The children were
A-MA-ZING!

They worked so well in their teams and created some wonderful shelters.  The children even took the time to help other children to perfect their shelters!

The children remained dry (mostly) when the shelters waterproof qualities were tested!

Well done Year 6.  Mrs Adams and myself are very proud of you all!

Amazing home learning projects!

I would like to say a huge well done to Yr 2 for their fantastic home learning projects. I was so impressed by the quality of work. I have also been able to see some of the home learning projects across the school. Thank you to ALL parents and guardians for their support with home learning projects and working with the school to help the children of Bitterne Manor with 'learning to be the best we can'!

A very proud teacher says "well done" to her amazing Year 2 class for all their hard work contributing to our "Into the Forest" art exhibition and sculpture trail! A beautiful display of our home learning projects was the star attraction for many, and the children enthusiastically followed the trail of sculptures around the school grounds with their friends and family. Thank you to everyone involved and well done Year 2!!

Cleaning Up Chessel Bay Again

This years JPCSO team have been out, hard at work, helping to clean up Chessel Bay. We managed to fill up a lot of rubbish sacks in a short space of time - which is great! Just a shame it had all ended up there in the first place...

Year 6 showing mutual respect of different faiths

Year 6 were really lucky to have had a brief introduction to the Islamic faith today.  Our visitors talked to the children about their beliefs and the importance of their religion to them.  The children asked some wonderful questions and had the opportunity to look at the books that were brought in.

We all learnt a lot about Islamic festivals and traditions and will be creating our own artwork next week based on Islamic patterns.

We all wanted to say a massive THANK YOU to Mrs Yas for introducing us to her friend and giving us the chance to talk about Islam.

Tent-tastic!

This term, we have been planning and preparing to create our own shelter.  We have experimented with different materials and tested our models with various amounts of water!  In preparation to build our shelters on Thursday, year 6 took the time to put up and examine real life tents.  Unfortunately the weather was against us but we still were able to put up the tents indoors!

All the children worked really well in their teams and I am sure they will build excellent shelters on Thursday!

Please help your children to gather the resources they need (they have all decided what they need to bring) and make sure they wear old clothes.  We will be building the shelters come rain or shine so please make sure they are prepared!

Learning to Lead...

Congratulations to this years school council who held their first meeting today. This year we are changing their role to 'Lead Learners' and the children have all sorts of ideas already about how they are going to make Bitterne Manor a better place to learn.

Tubs4Tabs

We would very much like everyone to start collecting Tubs4Tablets tokens now! This autumn Flora and Stork, in partnership with Tesco, are running an amazing scheme called Tubs4Tablets which aims to help our school bring cutting edge technology into the classroom. The scheme gives primary and middle schools in Great Britain the opportunity to collect tokens from special tubs of Flora and Stork on sale at Tesco from early October and exchange them for FREE touch screen tablets!

To help us make our campaign a success we need to collect as many tokens as possible. These can be found on promotional 500g tubs of Flora Original, Light and Buttery and Stork (subject to availability). Hand us your tokens… Just 50 tokens will get our school one brand new Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0” Wi-Fi 8GB tablet so help us to claim as many as we can.

Please do spread the word!

Remember, if friends, neighbours, work colleagues and family can help too we could collect even more tokens to exchange for tablets. There’s no limit to the amount of FREE tablets we can claim for the school!

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Any support you can offer will help us to introduce modern technologies to the classroom and open a world of possibilities for our pupils.

Year 2 have been "Into the forest"!

Year 2 visited Minstead today as part of our "Into the forest topic", and what an amazing day it was! We created sculptures from natural objects, went on a habitat hunt (and found a mouse!), did an eye-spy challenge spotting landmarks that make Minstead a village in the forest and much, much more! A big "Thank you" goes to all the helpers - staff and parents, who, without them, this trip would not have been possible.

A fantastic Harvest Festival at Bitterne Manor!

A very BIG thank you to everyone for your very kind donations! We were amazed at how many donations kept coming in, we lost count after 400!

We enjoyed an assembly led by Chris from Southampton City Mission, he was so pleased to be able to take the donations to Basics Bank which will help many people.

Thank you!
