Olympic Torch Bearer Visit

We were delighted to welcome our special visitor today who came to tell us all about how he was chosen to be an Olympic torch bearer. Matt inspired us all with his confidence and determination. He told the children how he aspires to be a Paralympian one day in his favourite sport - wheelchair basketball. Good luck Matt!

Year 1 are Superheroes!

Year 1 all looked very different when they came into school this week, they were lots of different superheroes! We spent the day finding out about different superheroes and special powers. We went on different missions including helping people who had fallen over, catching a giant and some robbers, rescuing sheep as well as saving a princess from a burning building. Year 1 had to think carefully about which powers to use and they had to write their own mission cards. We also had a Superhero themed PE lesson!

Year 5 Stroll to Sea City

This week, year 5 walked to Sea City Museum. We spent the morning enjoying a guided tour of the Gateway to the World exhibition, before learning about how Southampton has changed over time through a selection of hands on activities. The weather held out, so we were able to eat our lunches in the park, before revisiting the Gateway to the World exhibition and having a quick look at the Titanic exhibition! Sadly, there just wasn't enough time to see it all!

Don't bin it, bring it!

Next week, Bitterne Manor will be supporting a scheme to allow people to bring in small unwanted electrical items to school for recycling. We are collecting small items like phones, mp3 players or toasters which will then be passed on to a recycle company so that valuable components and parts can be used to make new things. There is also a competition to see which school in the city can collect the most!

By recycling your electricals, you are also contributing to the protection of Hampshire’s beautiful and diverse environment for future generations. The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive states that waste electrical goods cannot be sent to landfill and therefore must be properly treated and disposed of separately from household rubbish. This is because some substances used in household electrical items are potentially hazardous to the environment so it is important that they are disposed of properly and safely.

So...don't bin it, bring to school between Monday 18th June and Friday 22nd June - thanks!

CUP WINNERS and more sports!

Bitterne Manor Boys were worthy winners uf the Solent University Schools Cup! There was a tense semi-final that went to penalties, then sudden death. With a cracking shot from one of our year 5 boys took us to the final which Bitterne Manor beat Townhill 1-0. Our girls also reached the semi-finals, winning every game in their group. All the children made us extremely proud. Mr Puckett has done a fantastic coaching job! Summer 1 was jam packed with sports. We had cricket and multi-skills coaches in. We also took part in Cricket matches and a Swimming Gala. Besides the weather, Summer 2 is hotting up to look full of events too. With a tennis festival, city athletics, cricket tournament, rounders tournament, sports day and of course many olympic activities for the children to take part in.

Year 3 - Plant pots!

Year 3 have been very busy making clay pots to sell at the Summer Fayre.

Year 3 visit Fairweather's!

Year 3 had an amazing time visiting Fairweather's learning garden in the New Forest. We all learnt so much about how to look after plants and grow our own vegetables. We all worked hard and used our team work skills to get our jobs completed.
After all our hard work we went for a picnic in the New Forest.
A great day was had by all!
