Last term in DT, Kestrels enjoyed learning all about the differences between processed and wholefoods and today had a great time making either Ratatouille with orzo pasta or Lentil curry and rice. They showed fantastic skills; peeling, chopping and grating and worked together really well. The end results smelt and tasted delicious!

Travelling with Barnaby Bear!
We have had a very busy half-term 'travelling' to different countries and learning about them. We spent time exploring what each is like and comparing them to where we live.
We enjoyed finding out more about Poland. A big thank you to our Polish Assistant who answered many questions!

We ended our topic by 'flying' to China and having a Chinese New Year party to celebrate the year of the Goat. The children were fantastic in helping to create vegetable noodles to eat! We also used our cutting and creative skills to make lanterns and moving dragons and we used our imagination to set up a Chinese restaurant role-play and then we created a real one in class! We enjoyed eating our noodles and listening to Chinese music. We found the chop sticks tricky to use!

Year 4 update
What a busy week we've had! First we carried out some fieldwork near the source of the River Itchen, at Cheriton.
In an assembly to our parents and the school, we shared some of the work we've been doing this term, connected to our topic 'Save our River'. A mixture of written work, facts, art, dance and music. Well done everyone for all your hard work!
Recently, the class have been harvesting the vegetables and fruit they've been growing. Our triumph have been two pumpkins. We scooped out the seeds and saved these for planting next year. Then we scooped out the flesh, steamed it and used it to make some pumpkin pies! The class voted for their favourite designs for making faces. We've had fun with the fruits of our labour.

Evacuation cum VE Day celebrations
To round off our History topic 'We'll Meet Again', Year 4 were evacuated to different locations during the morning. Each group experienced a different reception at their host 'school', which we were able to share in the afternoon. All groups did some baking plus planned a menu for the day using rationed items 'bought' from a local shop using ration cards.
VE Day was celebrated in the afternoon. At the end of the afternoon, many parents and family came to our 'street party' to celebrate with us. Work was displayed, along with homework projects. The class also showed their WWII documentary films, made using 'movie maker' during our ICT lessons. The class dressed in role and looked superb. What a great way to finish our topic!

Year R have been busy this half term! We have travelled to lots of
different countries with Barnaby Bear and we found out lots of
interesting facts. We wrote in our travel diaries each week. We also
used our Maths skills to help Barnaby Bear to only pack the lightest

Year 5 visit Pizza Hut
This week, year 5 had the opportunity to visit Pizza Hut and make an individual pizza to bring back to school! Whilst we were there, we were given a tour of the restaurant and kitchens. We were then taught how to make a pizza, pizza hut style! It was lots of fun and the classroom smelt delicious for the rest of the day! Since our trip, we have used our experiences to write some instructions and we are really looking forward to inviting the parents to our own cafe on Wednesday 21st March!
