Children in Need

This was the perfect culmination to our Anti-bullying Week.

The children spent the morning doing some role plays with each other, trying to emulate the difficulties that some children with disabilities may face when they want to play with other. They found it particularly tricky trying to play with each other and not being able to talk as a form of communication, but, as always, they managed to find a solution to this and devised their own ways of getting each other's attention.

In the afternoon, we focuses on developing our Fine Motor Skills further, by making our own set of Pudsey ears. they wrapped and wound with wool and the glued the ears on at the end. And don't they look wonderful?!

In a week where we have been acknowledging and celebrating our difference, I have, once more, seen the class develop further as a team, with their friendships growing stronger every day!

Christmas hampers

The PTA have done a fantastic job again this year of creating the Christmas hampers, which will be raffled off on Thursday 21st December 2017.  Tickets will go on sale from today - so don't miss out!  The cost of each ticket is just £1 and there are 38 hampers to be won, 5 of which are luxury hampers, containing all kinds of goodies.  Each family in school will be given 5 tickets today to try and sell but if you require more, please ask in reception.

Good luck!

Thanks To Your Generosity...!

Thanks to your generosity, we have now received our school AED (automated external defibrillator). We need to do some training before it can be safely deployed and, of course, we hope that the day doesn't come when it is needed. If that time should come, we'll be in a good position to help save someone. We'll update on our training shortly. In the meantime, thanks to all of you who supported this project!

Switch Off Fortnight!

Over the next 2 weeks, we are taking part in Switch off Fortnight - aiming to save electricity (and money!) by ensuring that we are switching off our electronic devices when they are not in use.
Find out more:

https://jointhepod.org/students/primary

The WOW reps will be monitoring this use in school time, and the most energy efficient class will be rewarded with certificates and stickers!

We are also asking for children to engage with the fortnight, if they wish, by producing posters, games, stories, powerpoints etc to show why it is so important to try and conserve energy - the best 10 will receive a special keyring :-)

Sing along with the video at home..!

SAM visits Bitterne Manor!

Something special happened today...SAM visited our school! He made a guest appearance at our gate congratulating children as they made their way in.  Definitely a more exciting face to see hey? Take a sneaky peek below at some of the children that he spotted and rewarded just for coming to school and on time!  You're definitely in his good books and Mr Adams of course. He was delighted that you all couldn't wait to get into school and start learning :)

Kestrels stand up to bullying!

In Kestrel class for 'Anti-bullying' week, we have created a handbook for parents on what bullying is; the different types of bullying that can occur; how to spot the signs your child may be being bullied; reasons why a child may bully and cyber bullying.  The children all put a lot of effort into their research, thinking carefully about their audience.  They chose how to organise and present their information in an appealing and informative way.  They did a great job and should have brought home tonight a copy of one of the two booklets that were created by the class.

As a class they also worked collaboratively on an anti-bullying themed rap, which they performed in this afternoon's Golden Book assembly.

Children in need- spot alert

Today for children in need we all came to school in our spotty best. We worked super hard at completing our anti bullying week learning. Don't we all look amazing.

Thanks Olleco Southampton!

We would like to thank the folks at Olleco Southampton for their extremely generous donation of £200 towards our 'AED' appeal!

An AED is a machine used to give an electric shock when a person is in cardiac arrest, i.e. when the heart stops beating normally. Cardiac arrest can affect people of any age and without warning. If this happens, swift action in the form of CPR and prompt defibrillation can help save a person’s life.

Olleco are an award winning company in the business of  food waste collection, renewable energy and quality cooking oils.
Though, as they say on their website, they are more than just a waste business and dedicated to recovering the value of things that others might consider to be waste. For more details head to www.olleco.co.uk/

Thank you!

We Need Your Votes!

Our 'Banish the Mud' campaing is going well but we still need more votes! We're at 2741 with only 4 days to go. What a fabulous impact this project would have on our children if we could only get more votes - please spread the word and share the link below!

Anti bullying

Today we have been learning all about our words. We emptied the tooth paste tube of toothpaste. We imagined these were all the words we said in a day. We then had to use only a cotton bud to put the 'words' back. It was really hard and showed us that once we have said something we can not take it back.

Wildcats at Eastleigh Football Club

Eastleigh FC is running a Sunday morning Club for GIRLS ONLY starting this Sunday with the aim to get more girsl into the sport.  18 months ago, there were no female players registered to play for the Club, but now after a very successful period of recruitment, they can boast 114 girls and ladies playing football regularly under the Eastleigh FC banner. For mpore details contact the club directly.

Local area

Today year 1 were lucky enough to go on the local area walk, we walked out of the school and explored the surrounding environment. We found that even in our small area there is lots of different things.  We found houses: for living, offices and factories: for work, the river: for the wildlife.  We were even lucky enough to see buses, trains and aeroplanes to show how great our city is for transport and links to other places both in our country and further beyond.
We were very lucky with the weather and only got a little bit wet.

Magic Maths

Year 3 have been working hard this week on multiplication and division. Today they designed a game to test their knowledge of the 2,5 and 10 times table.

WOW update!

An update on how our 'Walk Once a Week' initiative is going...

Before the launch of the scheme,  45% of children were walking to school, with 34% coming by car.

During the month of October, 53% of children walked to school, with only 8% coming by car  -WOW!!!

A special well done to Rooks class who have the most children walking to school weekly, and to Swifts class who only have 3% coming by car.

Keep up the excellent work - 8 more badges to collect!! Remember - walk, scoot, cycle or park and stride once a week to be in with a chance of getting your badge at the end of the month!

The Digestive system

Over the last couple weeks Year 4 have been learning all about the digestive system.
This week we all had a go at making our very own digestive system where we put food in one end, replicated the process of digestion and then watched the waste products come out the other end, just like they would do in our bodies. Although some of us were a little squeamish about it, the task helped us remember all the different parts of the digestive system and the processes that happen there.
