Well done to these 2 kestrels who have been using their home learning time to find out all about curious creatures which have become extinct in relatively recent times. Fabulous work guys- keep it up!

Meet Charles Darwin!
What a fabulous presentation of Charles Darwin. The first 30 seconds are a blank screen, but keep watching!
Who was Charles Darwin?
Some great work coming in from kestrels about Charles Darwin and his exploration of the Galapagos Islands...

Hand Washing Science Experiment Results
Below are the results of a Science experiment we started before the closure with the children. Four different pupils (..they will remember who they are!) were asked to put their hands on different slices of bread which were then labelled and sealed. Before they touched the bread, one was asked to wash their hands with soap and water, another with hand sanitiser*, another to put their hands on a laptop keyboard and the last to not wash their hands at all before touching the bread. We weren't sure what exactly was going to happen but the children all knew that using soap and water was really important. Looking at the results below - three weeks later - they were proved absolutely right! I would have loved to carry the experiment on for a few more days but it was becoming a health hazard and rather unpleasant as you can see...!
*Added a note from our Science minded deputy who points out that the poor performance of the sanitiser was due to the moisture and you shouldn't be put off using it! Agreed!
There's another great 'washing hands' experiment you can do here.

Swifts send food to the MOON!
Super Swifts are currently learning all about Space. In particular we are looking at Bob, the Man on the MOON! Part of our Science topic is looking at the suitability of materials. We have worked hard at identifying properties of certain materials and the suitability of them. So when Bob sent a letter asking for help on which foods would last the journey to the Moon we happily obliged. We investigated lots of packaging and thought about which ones would be the most suitable packages! It was a very exciting lesson...

Spectacular Plants Competition Winner
We are very pleased and proud to announce that one of our pupils was a winner in the Royal Horticultural Societies' Spectacular Plants competition. He has been awarded a signed copy of the book 'Spectacular Plants' by Stewart McPherson and a collection of interesting plants from all over the world to take home and look after. The competition involved designing an interesting and imaginative plant which he did. We know he has a keen interest already in plants which is perfect! He was also supported and encouraged by our nature loving and very eco friendly ELSA team pictured here with him. Congratulations! The school will also receive a donation of some seeds, books and other activities in the new year.

Owls in Space.
Yesterday Year 5 explored Winchester Science Centre. We explored space and even got to make our own rockets! We all loved the planetarium, where it felt as though we could touch the stars. #SPACE #Rockets #Stars #Planets

MARVELLOUS medicine in the making...
The SUPER Swift class had a very exciting day today! They were on a mission to create a MARVELLOUS medicine (Just like George Kranky from George's Marvellous Medicine) and my did they succeed! So much so that poor Mr Adams agreed to taste it...! Lucky for him, he didn't as it was a very interesting mix of ingredients shall we say...
I think the picture above says it all!
