Kestrel's ring of fire!

Today was the day....our volcanoes (Set out to recreate the ring of fire around the Pacific rim) erupted!

Year 1 maths

This week we have been busy learning all about number and place value. We have used a range of our CPA resources to help us to count in 2s and find numberbonds to 10 and 20. I would like to say a big well done to the children this week. They have settled in so well to being year 1. I am very proud.

Owls on an adventure!

This week Owls have been exploring the solar system! We had a fantastic day at Winchester Science Centre exploring exhibits and finding out lots of information for our topic. We went flying through the solar system from the comfort of the spectacular planetarium, built our own rockets - launching them into the atmosphere - and explored amazing space exhibits!

Class Welcomes - this week!

We would like to invite parents to attend our ‘Class Welcomes’ after school on the  20th and 21st September at 5.00pm. These are great opportunities to meet your child’s new class teacher for the first time and to learn a little more about what the year ahead will look like for your child. You will hear about the daily routines, expectations around homework and what topic areas the children will be studying. The session should take around 30 minutes. We would encourage attendance for all parents but for those pupils in the key national curriculum assessment years, 2 and 6 (Swallows, Swifts and Kestrels), please note that we will be looking at what’s involved with the statutory assessment procedures or SATs as well.

All information will shortly be on school website here: www.bitternemanor.co.uk/class-pages/

Don’t forget you will get a chance to have an individual consultation later in the term with class teachers. These dates are on our calendar already and appointment letters will be sent out shortly before.

20th Sept Class Welcome Evening: 5.00pm Swallows, Rooks, Owls, Robins
21st Sept Class Welcome Evening: 5.00pm Kestrels, Swifts, Nightingales

Kingfishers don’t require a session just yet! We look forward to seeing you then.

Year 4 Bridge Building.

This week we have been investigating how to create a bridge structure strong enough to support a toy car. We used newspaper, tape and glue in various different ways, to bridge the gap between the two tables. Thankfully all of our bridges were strong enough to support the car!

and get it safely to the other side.

Swallows go hunting!

Yesterday Swallows went on a HABITAT HUNT!! We explored our school environment, hunting for different habitats and looking at what mini-beasts might be living there! Super Swallows did a fantastic job identifying the different types of habitats and had A LOT of fun doing so.

Well done Swallows!

House Captains 2017-18

Yesterday afternoon each house team met together to elect this year's house captains.  A huge well done to all the members of kestrel class who put themselves forward and were brave enough to stand up in front of the rest of their house and deliver a speech.  There were some really super speeches made and a lot of thought had gone into them.  However, only 2 could be elected per house and the results were as follows:

Amber and Ruby - Legends
Theo and Mia - Superstars
Aimee and Jayden - Heroes
Adil and Isobelle - Champions

Congratulations!

Kestrels get sticky!

Kestrels have had fun this afternoon, getting stuck into their 'natural disasters' topic by beginning to build their own volcanoes!  They showed great co-operation skills, problem solving and resilience in their groups - what a great start kestrels!  The volcanoes may be dormant at the moment but watch this space for possible future explosions!
