Our Brilliant JRock Team

Our JRock team assemble to celebrate their success at last nights Guildhall performance. We were recognised in several categories for excellence in:

Soundtrack
Performance Skill
Video Performance
Drama
Visual Enhancement
Entertainment
Set Design and Function
Lighting

Our overall performance was awarded 4th place out of the 10 schools in the event and we were really proud of this achievement in our very first year of taking part. Most importantly, the children had fun, worked together as a team, had a fantastic experience and learnt a lot. Well done everyone!

Lastly...  a few more photos from backstage:

JRock 2016 Performance: Candyland!

More pictures from last nights JRock 2016 performance of Candyland by Bitterne Manor. An amazing production and the children were all superb! What a great team and what an all round effort putting everything together. They should all be very proud of themselves and what they have achieved. We were so very proud of our children watching last night! Well done to all those who contributed and we'll be celebrating them in assembly this morning. We need to say a huge thank you to the group of parents and staff who made this happen - especially to Leah, Hannah &  Amber for their inspiration, organisation and choreography. There'll be one more post later this morning announcing our results...!

J-ROCK 2016... All set to go...!

The stage is set... ready to go! Last night at the Guildhall, Southampton, just before our J-Rock performance and all our cameras had to be turned off! We'll be sharing some more details of our stunning performance and the results - if you haven't heard them already - later today.

Our Amazing visit from Sue the Radiographer!

We learnt so much about bones this afternoon!  We saw lots of xrays, named some of our bones, looked at animal skeletons and marked on gloves all 27 bones in our hands!

Code Clubs...

Message from Hampshire Library Service:

Places at Library Code Clubs are filling up fast with 9 to 11 year olds from all over Hampshire signing up to learn coding skills and expand their digital horizons. Following successful launches in Winchester, Farnborough, Fareham and Lymington Libraries, our code clubs have become so popular that we’ve added more atChandler’s Ford and Eastleigh too. In association with Code Club South East, using their innovative three term schedule, children from across the county can take part in coding projects. To find out more, register your interest, or find out how to volunteer, head to the website. We'll be launching more Code Clubs this year too. Keep up with the latest news via our blog.

It IS Rocket Science...!

We are very excited! Pupils at Bitterne Manor will become space biologists and embark on a voyage of discovery by growing seeds that have been into space.

In September, 2kg of rocket seeds were flown to the International Space Station (ISS) on Soyuz 44S where they will spend several months in microgravity before returning to Earth in March 2016. The seeds have been sent as part of Rocket Science, an educational project launched by the RHS Campaign for School Gardening and the UK Space Agency.

Our school will be one of up to 10,000 schools to receive a packet of 100 seeds from space, which we will grow alongside seeds that haven’t been to space and measure the differences over seven weeks. We won’t know which seed packet contains which seeds until all results have been collected by the RHS Campaign for School Gardening and analysed by professional biostatisticians.

The out-of-this-world, nationwide science experiment will enable pupils to think more about how we could preserve human life on another planet in the future, what astronauts need to survive long-term missions in space and the difficulties surrounding growing fresh food in challenging climates.

Rocket Science is just one educational project from a programme developed by the UK Space Agency to celebrate British ESA astronaut Tim Peake’s Principia mission to the ISS and inspire young people to look into careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) subjects, including horticulture.

Ancient Greek Day!

Kestrels have had an AMAZING day finding out even more about the Ancient Greeks  whilst dressed in greek costumes (a big thank you to parents for supporting us with this!). We were incredibly lucky to have David from Histrionics come and put on a very entertaining show 'The legend of Troy' and run a workshop for us where we got to handle artefacts and try on a replica helmet.  This was part of a reward for doing so well with our sustainable travel initiative.  We also had a great time tasting typical greek foods and making our own masks of gods, godesses and mythical creatures.
