Christingle Service

This afternoon we held our Christingle service at the newly refurbished church of the Ascension. Thanks to Vicar Sarah Chapman for inviting us to her church to celebrate Christmas and to all the parents who helped us walk up to the church and back.

Dress Rehearsal

Monday is our dress rehearsal for the Christmas Show. Please make sure all children bring costumes to school!
The show performances are Tuesday at 1.30pm and 6.30pm. The evening is now FULL! A few tickets are still available for the afternoon show.

Guildhall Concert will go ahead.....

The Guildhall have now confirmed a new date for the Christmas Concert, Thursday 16th December. All tickets bought previously will be valid for the new date. The children are delighted they will have the chance to perform at the Guildhall following all of their hard work rehearsing.

Year 3s Egyptian Day

We started our day with dance rehearsals then Year 3 prepared the Egyptian-style foods they had contributed. (Thank you parents!) Speeches were practiced then a final dance practice.

After lunch the children transformed themselves into Ancient Egyptians, wearing masks and costumes. Faces were painted to complete the image. You all looked great!

Finally, we welcomed pharoah's chief advisor to our feast. Dances were performed, music played, tooth care advice given then the feasting began. Our guest chose one of the platter layouts designed by the children for his snack. Great fun was had by all. Thanks to our helpers and well done to Year 3 for all their hard work this term.

PTA Christmas presents

Not that we want to spoil the surprise, but our children have been buying and wrapping presents for the family supported by our PTA! This is a great idea and also raises a little money for the school!

Toilet planning...

The school council have been collecting ideas from the children on how to improve our school toilets. Here they are discussing plans put forward by the rest of the school. We are looking to paint our toilets with an interesting design - if anyone knows any artists in the community who might be able to support us - please get in touch!

New Kitchen & Nurture room

Here are our school councillors having a first look at our newly completed kitchen area and nurture room. This new facility replaces our old IT suite and will allow us to do a lot more cooking activities in school.

PTA Non-uniform day

Our PTA non-uniform day has been re-arranged to Wednesday 8th December. Children can wear no uniform for the day in exchange for goodies to go into Christmas Hampers! Please check the PTA letter (on the website) for your child's requested contributions.

Year 2 restaurant

On Wednesday 8th December Year 2 children will be serving their parents at the grand opening of Luigi's restaurant! Tickets will be on sale on Monday before and after school. The tickets cost £2. Diners can enjoy samples of the food the children will cook. The grand opening starts at 3:30pm. We hope to see you there.

School Closed Friday 3rd December

The school will be closed on Friday 3rd December.
This is due to the overnight forecast which predicts temperatures as low as -8 degrees, making early morning travel on the roads and pavements dangerous for both staff and children.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

The forecast for the weekend appears to be better so we hope to see you all back at school on Monday!

Guildhall Concert cancelled

Sorry to disappoint families and children but the Guildhall have cancelled the School's concert tonight due to the bad weather. If the concert is not re-scheduled, once school is open we will contact parents about refunds for tickets and we will endeavour to share the children's concert with you at school instead!

School Closed Thursday 2nd December

School will be closed TODAY (Thursday 2nd December) because of the considerable overnight snow. Police are warning us all not to travel. Many staff are unable to get to school today.

Please keep an eye on the website today for updates.

We expect the Guildhall Concert tonight may be postponed or cancelled, but we will make every effort to post further information on this blog later today.

Streetbeatz

The final production at Bitterne Manor demonstrated the different styles of dance the children have learned. Family and friends came to watch and enjoy the show last week.

Multi-skills coaching

Year 2 have had the opportunity of a multiskills coach this half term. They have been learning sports skills that will transfer to many other sports.

Year R visit the Salvation Army Church

Year R were very lucky to be invited to decorate a Christmas tree at the Salvation Army Church in Sholing.


The class decided to make their decorations based on the hymn 'The First Noel'. Each child made a star with their photograph placed in the middle, and an angel. Lots of glitter was also involved!

At the church there was also a nativity scene. The class discussed the figures, wokring out who it was they were going to be in our play.

Year 1 and Barnaby Bear visit Bitterne!

Year 1 took Barnaby Bear around Bitterne today to show him the shops and the type of shops that there are. We also showed him the old and new buildings as well as carrying out a traffic survey to see which was the most popular type of transport which was cars, some groups even saw a plane! We even carried out a people survey to see who was shopping in Bitterne and found that it was mostly women! Well done Class 1 and a big thank you to all of the parents who helped us. :)

Year 4 Design Technology Project

Year 4 have begun their Design Techology project making winter or Christmas cushions. They have already designed their cushions and today began sewing the front designs. The cushions will be ready to bring home in time for Christmas!

More Disco Highlights!

Disco Night

Friday was disco night at Bitterne Manor and the children really enjoyed themselves. The atmosphere was helped by an amazing light show and the children spending lots of money on 'glow sticks'! Thanks to our PTA organisers!

Pizza Express

Year 2 enjoyed their tour of Pizza Express in Southampton. Thanks to Shaun, who gave us lots of information about how they make Pizza there and he even made us one to try! He did lock us in the chiller for a bit though...

Movie Makers

The movie maker university course reaches its final stages!
Premieres are scheduled for this Friday. Lights, cameras, action, popcorn!

Year 6 scientists!

Year 6 have been learning about reversible and irreversible changes. They have investigated what happens when different solids and liquids are mixed and have explored ways of separating them.

Year 5 classroom taken over by masterchefs!

Today the year 5 classroom was taken over by the masterchefs of Bitterne Manor! They had lots of fun creating red and white peppermint cream, before moulding it into christmas shapes! Here are the results.....

Year 4 Ice Palace

Year 4 have begun a new book this week - 'The Ice Palace' by Robert Swindell. Today we did some drama, imagining we were characters from the book. We used this to write about how the people felt in the summer and in the winter.
