Year R make a great start to life at Bitterne Manor!

Welcome to Bitterne Manor! We have very much enjoyed welcoming the new children and we are delighted with how they have settled into our school!

We have been very busy exploring the school and the classroom and we have taken part in many activities including PE, number work, letters and sounds, reading, painting, making and sticking, computers, puzzles, bikes and many more! The children were fantastic on a school trip to the Bear Factory where we made our class bear - Michael Stuffy! They were also brilliant at singing a bear rap song to parents at our picnic.

Please see the pictures below. Well done Year R for a great start to school!

JPCSO Clean Up!

Yesterday afternoon, the JPCSOs and PCSOs did their bit for the community and local wildlife by helping tidy up Chessel Bay. For those of you who are able to, there is an official Chessel Bay 'Autumn Clean Up' this Saturday 26th October between 10.00am and 2.00pm. Turn up if you can - there's plenty more to do. Under 16's must be accompanied by an adult.

Year 4 update

What a busy week we've had! First we carried out some fieldwork near the source of the River Itchen, at Cheriton.

In an assembly to our parents and the school, we shared some of the work we've been doing this term, connected to our topic 'Save our River'. A mixture of written work, facts, art, dance and music. Well done everyone for all your hard work!

Recently, the class have been harvesting the vegetables and fruit they've been growing. Our triumph have been two pumpkins. We scooped out the seeds and saved these for planting next year. Then we scooped out the flesh, steamed it and used it to make some pumpkin pies! The class voted for their favourite designs for making faces. We've had fun with the fruits of our labour.

Let's Rock with Year 5!

Thanks to Year 5 for their excellent and entertaining Rock and Roll assembly. It was brilliant! I think they enjoyed themselves as much the audience did. You can see in these pictures how amazing they looked!

Sea City Museum

Year 2 had a very interesting and enjoyable trip to the Sea City Museum in Southampton this week. We were really showing off all that we had been learning about Titanic in our topic and picking up a few new facts too! We also enjoyed dressing up and steering the ship...missing the icebergs, of course.

Natural Phenomenon...

We took both of these pictures in our school grounds. The first is an impressive spider's web caught in the morning dew. The second is truly remarkable...we called it the 'leaf tiger'! This formation of leaves was discovered by pupils on the playground and was created entirely by the wind. We felt it looked just like an animal - what do you think?

Year 3 Weekly report

This week we have been working very hard in maths!  We have learnt to draw 3D cubes and cuboids and a few other 3D shapes.  We have been solving 3D shape challenges and some of us have made cubes.

In literacy, we have been learning all about persuasive writing and we have been writing letters to Mrs Hayward, trying to persuade her to get rid of school uniform (but don't tell her, it's a secret!)

We have all written an email to Indiana Jones and we hope that it gets to him in his cave where he's being kept prisoner!  We will be searching for his treasure soon!

We are looking forward to art day on tuesday next week!

That's all for now,

School Council Elections 2013

Using a device we think is called 'Frank'.
Today was School Council Election 2013. The votes have been cast and counted and the results are in...but they won't be announced until Monday! You will have to wait a little longer...

Junior Police Community Support Officers

These are our Year 6 pupils taking part in their first 'JPCSO' session with our local PCSOs from Hampshire Constabulary. The scheme helps our older pupils learn about their own personal safety and we hope will build their confidence to handle difficult situations. All the children were very enthusiastic in their new role but they were just trying on the uniforms and they will not be given any statutory powers....!

Weekly report by year 3

We have had a very busy week!  We have enjoyed playing basketball in PE.  Our favourite part of literacy was writing our reports and we enjoyed our poster competition.  Our geography rain guage was AWESOME!  We are enjoying counting up how much rain has fallen.  We have voted for our school councillor today.

We are looking forward to finding out who is going to be our school councillors.

More from us next week!
