Great Sports!

Our sporting teams have been doing a great job representing the school in recent competitions. Our U11 footballers (above) are currently progressing through the city league and cup competitions and doing rather well! Our cross country team also had a great result - one of our boys has made the top 10 in the city and one of our girls was just outside. The girls team managed to come 6th out of the 28 teams competing and our boys were 18th out of the 43 teams. That's over 1400 runners taking part from 20 schools which is a record for the cross country league. The top 10 individuals will be invited to go on to compete in the county finals. Well done to all those taking part and we will be looking for opportunities to participate in more events as the year progresses. Thanks to all the parents who have supported the event and have been transporting their own and other children to events!

Football First!

There are a few items that have missed out on being blogged this year, so I thought I would try to complete a mini update and include some pictures!

Football First!  The school football team has had full on start to the season.  We played two tournaments in September between years 5 and 6.  We entered the city wide schools knockout cup and the Southampton school’s football league.  Results have been up and down during the first half of the season.  Unfortunately we didn’t progress in the cup, but within the tournaments and league the boys (and Mia) have gained confidence and progressed as each week has passed.  Ready for a well-deserved winter break, fixtures resume in the early part of next year.

The Jewell Shield

We said goodbye today to the 'Jewell Shield' - the Southampton Schools' football trophy which we very proudly won last year. It's leaving a big hole in our trophy cabinet but we are hopeful that one day we might win it again...!

2015 WINNING TEAM! CHAMPIONS OF THE LEAGUE, CHAMPIONS LEAGUE AND THE JEWEL SHIELD!

Yesterday evening was the finale of an amazing football season for Bitterne Manor. After a fantastic performance from the boys throughout the league group stages and some close games in the Champions league, the final prize was in sight -  The Jewel Shield.
It was a very exciting end to end match against Blackfield who were worthy opponents and showed some great skills. But Bitterne Manors boys demonstrated relentless determination and team spirit to win the match. Mr Puckett encouraged some great tactical play with a strong defense, skillful midfield and some great speed and finishing from the boys to win 3-2!
Well done to Mr Puckett for coaching the team and Mr Smith who has been helping out. A big thank you to Mr Humphries for organising the tournaments and matches. Also to the parents, friends, families and teachers for all your support.

The FINAL, the story!

Very Proud!
Well done!

The Jewel Shield is the Southampton schools final prize and has been presented to schools since 1966. This is the first time Bitterne Manor will have its name engraved on this piece of History. I will get it engraved shortly and it will take its place in our trophy cabinet for all to see.

East side Football league winners and now Champions league semi-finalists!

Our talented and amazing football team won the East side football league last Wednesday, which has been played from October to March. Today they competed in the Champions league quarter finals against the winners of the West side league 'Springhill'.  It was an exciting match for us against a worthy team. Both teams demonstrated amazing skills, stamina and competency and battled to the very end. 2-2 at full time, then 2- 2 in extra time which resulted in a nail biting penalty shoot-out! Both teams were neck and neck going through the players scoring and equalising each shot. Eventually the pain was relieved in a 12 - 11 result on penalties. Bitterne Manor finally winning a very deserved place in the semi-finals!

A nail biting penalty line-up

I and the boys would like to thank Mr Puckett again for his relentless enthusiasm for the game and coaching expertise.
I think Mr Puckett is there somewhere?

The next round is Bitterne Manor v Oakwood in a Semi-final of the Champions league. This is the first time a small school like ours has reached this level!

Football Success for Bitterne Manor

2 Games, 9 boys, 10 GOALS and a clean sheet for our GOALIE!

Results:
Bitterne Manor 5, Thornhill 0
Bitterne Manor 5, St Johns 0

It was a great team performance with goals coming from all over the field and a great defensive display.  Our Number 8 was the David Beckham of Bitterne Manor as his pinpoint crosses resulted in numerous goals. Number 7 will be taking Rooney's position if he continues at his current rate, scoring 4 great goals!
Our smallest player also snuck in 2 cheeky goals, jumping over a player and scoring from the line and placing one nicely past the goalie.

A big Well done to all the boys and thank you to Mr Puckett our fantastic coach!

Football tournament

Bitterne Manor football teams took part in a 6-a-side  tournament on Wednesday. The boys reached the quarter finals again, winning all the matches in their group. After a very even and nail biting match they were unfortunately knocked out on penalties.  The girls had wins, losses and draws in the group stages, finally coming 5th. Well done to all, it was a great day that all the children enjoyed.
