The Southampton Mental Health Support Team often send out newsletters to schools. Their latest one provides some really useful information on anxiety for primary aged pupils, which I thought would be helpful to share. It can be accessed via the school website on the Covid 19 page or by clicking the link below:

A Kingfisher's excellent home learning
This Kingfisher has been busy this week. He has been thinking about his wellbeing with the help from Rizzo the worry monster. He has been getting his aqua dragons ready in their tank so they can hatch over the next few days. He has also learnt to spell 'because' using a rhyme to help him.
This Kingfisher has been looking at subtraction this week, drawing number lines to help him. He has also been looking at opposites, shadows, sun and time.

Beautiful planters
This Kingfisher has been decorating planters by doing potato printing. I love the colours he has chosen to make them look so bright and attractive. Once the plants were planted in them the bees came for a visit. This kind Kingfisher learnt all about bees, how they are important for our ecosystem and how they make delicious honey. Well done on creating a wonderful place for the bugs and bees to visit.

Kindness Matters!
The theme for Mental Health Awareness Week this year has been KINDNESS! To celebrate and promote this Skylarks have been completing activities to spread kindness and think about what it means to them to be kind!

This SUPER Swift has been busy learning lots of new skills during this time! Now that's what I call a very productive Swift 😄

Loving the SUN!
The weather has been absolutely beautiful the past few days and this Swift seems to be taking full advantage of enjoying it! He's been doing his PE sessions in the park and collected lots of shells along the sea front. How fabulous!

All things Malala.
The Owls have been busy gathering facts about Malala Yousafzai.
FACT FILE ABOUT MALALA:

Malala was born on the 12th July in Mingora, Pakistan. Her family could not afford a hospital birth and she was born at home with the help of a neighbour.

Malala’s parents are Ziauddin & Tor Peki. She also has 2 younger brothers called Khushal and Atal. They were very poor and had to live under the cruel rules of Pakistan.

I AM MALALA:
Whilst travelling home from school on a bus on 9th October 2012, when she was 15, Malala was shot in the head by a masked Taliban gunman. Two of her friends were injured in the attack. Malala was flown to Birmingham. She managed to survive but was in hospital for 3 months.
HUMAN RIGHTS:
After the attack on Malala, it went world wide and over 2 million people signed the right to education in Pakistan. Then, in 2013, the “Malala fund” was set up. It was a campaign that successfully allowed girls in Pakistan to have a 12 year education.
MALALA’s MESSAGE:
“One child, one teacher, one pen and one book can change the world.”

It's all about the food!
This Kingfisher has been having great fun with food in and out of the kitchen.
Look at this very tasty looking apple, pear and blackberry crumble. I bet it tasted amazing too. I have hinted that crumble is my favourite pudding!

She has also been taking part in the Rainbow Challenges and had great fun experimenting with a variety of pasta and food colouring. Those colours came out really well.
In her garden our Kingfisher has made a vegetable patch. She planted tomatoes, cucumber and lettuce. I bet she is doing a super job of looking after them. Do you think we should have a vegetable patch in our Year R playground Kingfishers?
