Amazing Artists!

This afternoon the super Swift class put their creative skills to the test. We have been looking at the forest and natural objects linked to our Art theme over the last few weeks. Today, children were given the task of sketching an animal that lives in the forest. I may be biased BUT they all did a wonderful job. We have some seriously talented Swifts.

Take a peek of some of the sketches below, you won't be disappointed...

Awesome I know! Well done Swifts, a 🌟 for you all!

Kingfishers and 'The Colour Monster'

In Kingfishers this week we are focusing on the book 'The Colour Monster'.  The book is about a monster who is feeling emotionally 'mixed up' and how a little girl makes him feel better by talking through each emotion (colour).

We have used story spoons to discuss our own emotions.  We talked about when we might feel a certain emotion, why and how it makes us act.  Our Kingfishers also thought about how you might be able to tell how someone feels by looking at their facial expression and body language.  The children discussed what we can do when we feel sad or angry, and who might be able to help us to feel happy or calmer when these emotions take over.

In our Maths we have been talking about 'sorting'.  Like in 'The Colour Monster' we sorted colours into different bottles.  Our Kingfishers were amazing at sorting!

Tent building

Today Kestrels were challenged to build a tent using limited resources.  They practised their measuring, cutting and joining skills; were resilient and showed great cooperative skills and were (for the most part) very successful!  See what you think...

Dengineers!

In Kestrel class we have been reading a book called 'Way Home'.  In the story we see a shelter/den that the main character has built.  We used this as a starting point for designing our own 'dream' dens.  There were lots of fabulous creations from football dens, to gymnastic and ballet dens; hairdresser dens and treetop hideouts.  Here are just a few....

Super Scientists in Jays

 Good Afternoon!

This afternoon in Science, we have been learning about states of matter. We looked at 3 balloons, one filled with water, one filled with ice and one blown up normally and talked about the fact that everything in our lives is either a solid, a liquid or a gas.

After this, we discussed how we could tell whether something was solid, liquid or gas. We had some fabulous ideas. We then learnt about particles. We used cheerios to show what particles would look like in solids, liquids and gases. Have a look at some of our work!

Then we had to think of some examples of things which could be solids and liquids. We came up with jelly and eggs. Can you think of anymore?

Artists in the making...

in the Swift class! The Super Swifts had a very creative afternoon in the sun today. We've been looking at natural objects and artist Andy Goldsworthy. He makes lots of natural sculptures outside using natural objects. So, the Swift class had a go at making their own. They did an AWESOME job! Take a look for yourselves...

Well done Swifts!

A Massive Welcome to our Kingfishers!

Our new Kingfishers have started school!

They are doing an amazing job.

Our wonderful Kingfishers enjoyed their 'Wake and Shake'!

They are learning about our routines and how we share and take turns.

We are so proud of them.  Keep it up Kingfishers!

SENSATIONAL Skylark are BACK!

WOW! What a whirlwind this first full week back to school has been! Jam-packed full of fun learning tasks! :)

It has been a fantastic start to the new school year and the children have made be so proud to see their wonderful attitude and drive to learn and begin their new year as a Skylark!

In between some marvellous Maths work on Place Value and excellent English work on our new text, Amazing Grace, we have also produced incredible artwork using bold and bright colours to fill our displays with OUTSTANDING and EYE CATCHING pieces!

I hope you all have a lovely weekend and I can't wait to see you all Monday morning for a new week of learning!

Keep smiling! :)

A couple of SUPER Swifts...

Yesterday marked the end of the first full week back to school and it's been a busy one. The Swift class have been utterly amazing and settled in brilliantly. I couldn't have asked for more! Where things are a little different, we've tried hard to keep some things the same. One being the 'Golden Book.'

This is the first one this term and it was such a hard choice. I wish I could have picked the whole class but I was told only two. Mrs Egerton came round to our class and presented the lucky two with their certificates and golden stickers. Both were picked for their outstanding attitude to learning and behaviour.

Here's a peek at who the first two are...

Well done my Swifties!

Absolute SUPERSTARS 🌟

Rocking Robins dive straight into Year 1!

Wow! What a fab few days our new ROCKING ROBINS have had! With our first ever Guided Reading session Robins showed that they mean business when it comes to being the best learners they can be!

I was blown away by the incredible standard of work that our new Year 1 team produced today! You guys are definitely STARS! Well done!

Here are some examples of what Robins have produced!

Kestrels are a strong team!

Our new intake of kestrels are back in school and it has been great to see them!  We have been really impressed by their attitude so far and their eagerness to show us what they can remember and what they have to bring to year 6!
We made a fabulously long paper chain to represent how strong we are as a class.  Each member of the class identified strengths that they could bring to the team as well as offering ideas of strengths some of their peers/friends brought too and together we were blown away by what an amazing team we are.
We can't wait to watch them grow and support each other throughout the year!

So smart! :)

SUPER Swifts are back!

WOW! What a day it's been for the SUPER Swift class! They have been utterly amazing, we couldn't have asked for more. Today they got a taste of what it was like to be in Year 2. The Swift team have been blown away by them. Well done!

Here's a peek of what they got up to...

We made a wish for the year and put it in our 'dreams jar.' At the end of the year we will open the jar up to see if it's come true!

As SUPER Swifts are sweet, we wrote a compliment for each other on some jelly bean templates. These will be displayed in the classroom for all to see!

We had a go at sketching our very own portraits this afternoon. They look FAB! These will be made up into a funky display outside the classroom for all the view. We have some talented artists!

This task allowed me to ask my Swifts what kind of teacher they wanted. The responses were very unique indeed but I'll try my hardest to do them all!

Finally, no Swift class is complete without our standard Swift selfies. So we took it in turns to take a snazzy selfie using some photo-booth props. These will be up for everyone to see soon. Here's a few though...

#Looking AWESOME!

Welcome back Swifts, it's going to be a FAB year! 🌟
