Football coaching

Years 5 & 6 have been lucky enough to receive football training from visiting coaches this half term. They have enjoyed learning new skills & using them in matches. Here Year 6 are eagerly awaiting the results of their final tournament!

Victorian Day!

Year 5 had lots of fun yesterday dressing up as Victorians to re-enact a Victorian day at school! We studied subjects such as arithmetic, dictation, reading, handwriting, drill and even learnt the countries of the British Empire in geography!

At the end of the day, we performed the dance we had been working on this half term to some of our parents. The dance was inspired by the Victorian factory machines of the industrial revolution. We finished our performance by reading out some sentences about what we had enjoyed most during our Victorian day! Strangely, several children thought that wearing the dunce hat was the best part of their day!

We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who made this day a success! The children's costumes were absolutely fabulous!

Year 3 rock!

To conclude their dance unit in PE this term, Year 3 performed their Rock 'n Roll dance to a couple of other classes. Children began their dance together then moved into pairs to perform their own dances which they ended in a pose - very effective. They concluded with the learnt rock and roll steps again. The audience were very impressed and it certainly looked like Year 3 enjoyed themselves. What stars!

Year 3s Dragon Show

Year 3s Dragon Show was enjoyed by parents and the school in the hall. We began with a dragon themed dance wearing the masks we'd made. Different groups then entertained the audience when they performed dragon poems - well done everyone.
A range of our fabulous moving dragons was shown to the audience. Some dragons breathed fire, some had opening mouths and some dragons had flapping wings! The children had worked hard to make their pneumatics work.
At the end of the show, parents had a chance to look at
all the dragons and see how they moved. What a great way to conclude a popular class topic.

With lots of 1st, 2nd and 3rd places on various races and activities, their combined scores secured 1st place above some tough competitors. All the children went home with medals, lots of smiles and a winners cup for our trophy cabinet. Well done again!

A Wet Day Out for Year 4!

Today Year 4 visited Cheriton. It was all part of our river topic. Little did we know how wet we'd get without even falling in!!!! The weather was against us.....but it did not dampen our spirits, just made our paper soggy! Whilst we were there we compared the location to Bitterne, sights and sounds. We took measurements of the river at 3 different places - the oranges serving a key role in finding the speed of flow of the river!! We also measured the depth and width of the river - we got to put our maths work from this week into practice! Now tomorrow in maths, we are going to use the data we collected to find the answer to the question: Does the river flow fastest at it's widest?
