"Learning to be the best we can!"

Wednesday, 28 February 2018

Yesterday, Year 4 enjoyed their first My Money workshop. They discussed what they like to spend their money on and things they may like to save for in the future. They were split into groups and given different job roles to explore before working as a team to answer quiz questions about saving money. They concluded the session by completing some money problem solving to do with their given job role. They are all looking forward to the next session.

Fun in the snow

We have worked really hard today and this afternoon the snow began to come down. As a treat we went outside for 5 minutes to play in the snow. It was cold but great fun.

Bitterne Park Neighbourhood Policing Team Update

We are the Bitterne Park Neighbourhood Policing Team and each month we’ll be providing crime prevention advice and updates on issues within your area.

Since the beginning of the year, we’ve had reports of vehicle crime in the Bitterne North area. Items such as power tools, hand bags and sat navs are being stolen from vehicles.

  • Upon locking your vehicle, try the door to ensure that it is actually locked.
  • When leaving your car, close all of the windows.
  • When parking at home, use your garage or park in a well-lit area.
  • Leave the glove box open to show there is nothing inside.
  • Do not leave anything in your vehicle. A jacket or coat left behind may be of little value to you but a thief may think it has been used to hide a laptop or hand bag.
  • Do not store your documents in the car.
  • Where possible, remove valuable items from the vehicle overnight and store them in a secure place.
  • Apply a security marking product to power tools and equipment.
  • Log your property for free at www.immobilise.com

We want to keep you up to date to with what’s going on in your community. Sign up for free to www.hampshirealerts.co.uk and receive messages from us of information, crime alerts and witness appeals local to the area in which you live or work.

Report suspicious activity to us on 101

My Money Project Kicks Off!

We are really lucky to have a company called MyBnk in school this half term, delivering a project with Years 4, 5 and 6 called 'My Money'.

This is a curriculum based scheme that will focus on the children developing positive mindsets and habits about money from an early age.

The programme runs across a 6 week period, starting on Tuesday 27th February, with MyBank coming in to deliver sessions every two weeks. Between each session there are teacher activities and family challenges to complete to enrich the learning.

The project was launched this morning with an assembly - are you a Super Spender or a Super Saver?! To be continued in class today...

Watch out for further posts from each class to find out what they have been doing!

Parent Consultations: 27th and 28th February

This week we are holding our parent consultations on Tuesday 27th February (3.30 till 5.30) and Wednesday 28th February (5.00 till 7.00). We would very much like every parent to take the opportunity to see how their children are progressing. If you are unable to make an appointment, please let staff know so we can provide and opportunity outside of these hours - this is not a problem!

We have shared information with you already about your child's progress and attainment. This is a chance for you to have this explained to you in more detail. To understand how our assessment system works please take a look at this page of our website: www.bitternemanor.co.uk/assessment/

We have also shared information with you about your child's learning behaviours and we would strongly encourage you to discuss these with the class teacher.

Lastly, don't forget to fill in our 'Proud Parent' forms when  you see your child's amazing work!

Weather Warnings...

We have all been aware that the weather for the next few days is going to be extremely challenging in parts of the country with a lot of snow forecast. Either way, it will be extremely cold! Please send children into school prepared for the chill that's forecast - warm clothes, extra layers, hats and gloves  are looking essential. We will make decisions about how long children will remain outside/inside during playtimes and breaktimes on a daily basis. In the event of any major disruption, please keep an eye on our blog and website for information.

Rewards for kindness

In robins we are learning to be respectful and kind to our friends. We can earn marbles when we are seen at break and lunch time being respectful to those around us. We can also earn leaves in the classroom when we do things that are kind to others. This can be to the environment, each other or the adults.  When we earn 5 marbles we get 5 minutes extra playtime.  When we help the tree to bloom we will earn a special treat. Ask your child how many leaves and marbles we have earnt today.

Saxon Afternoon!

Thank you so much to all of the parents who came to see and celebrate Owls' hard work this half term! The children loved being able to show off their ballads, legends and research as well as reenacting the famous battles of 1066! I am so proud of all their hard work this half term and I am incredibly glad they all seem to be so engaged with the learning!

 Have a lovely half term!

Fishbourne Roman Palace trip.

Today Year 4 visited Fishboune Roman Palace. We began by exploring the gardens and palace grounds before heading inside for a fun-filled workshop. We dressed up as Roman slaves to get ourselves into role. After finding out lots of information about the palace, we had the opportunity to complete a range of activities. These included puzzles, creating mosaics and writing our names in ink and on beeswax tablets. Finally, we got to see the original mosaic flooring in the main wing of the palace. We were all really impressed with the intricate designs that covered the floors. Overall we had a very enjoyable and informative day.
