Times Table Trophies!

Swifts, Skylarks, Nightingales and Rooks are rising to the challenge of collecting their Times Table Trophies!

Across the classes children are challenging themselves to focus on their times tables. It's fantastic to see such enthusiasm from the children towards progressing through the trophies! They will be frequently practicing their tables in class before completing a times table sheet.

Children are delighted when they complete a times table to get a gold star on their Times Table Trophy card and a certificate to take home!

Nightingales Stone Age Day!

Nightingales went back to the Stone Age on Friday! We had our own archaeologist log book and learnt how to research the past. We learnt about Stone Age burials and how they changed over time, the clothing they used, and the fact that the 'modern day' T-shirt is actually a 300,000 year old invention! We dug for our own artifacts and analysed them, created our own Stone Age art, understood how Stone Agers radically changed the British landscape and learnt about Stone Age food - they were actually very healthy and always had their 5 a day!

Nightingales First Week in Year 3!

What a fantastic first week for the Nightingales! It has been brilliant seeing the class back in school ready to learn with buckets of enthusiasm! On our first day back we learnt about the importance of resilience (Our learning value this term) and putting the effort into everything we do to succeed. We watched Mo Farah from this Years Rio Olympics win his gold and understood that even if we make a mistake (he fell over) we can all be winners so long as we try our hardest!

We looked at how we view others in the class positively and how being positive and optimistic means that we remain resilient and friendly towards one another. Each class member had their own hand filled by the rest of the class with positive features about that person (See below!) Nightingales have already proved how friendly we are as we won the Kind Kevin award last week! Well done Nightingales! :)

Nightingales were also tasked with creating the tallest tower they could. In groups they were all given the same type and amount of materials to see which team could build the tallest tower. The class had to show fantastic teamwork but above all great resilience as many times their towers fell over but Nightingales would't give up and persisted until 5 tall towers were standing in the classroom! Great effort!

Nightingales also played a question and answer game called The Key Jar. Some questions examples included 'What was the hardest thing you have done this week?' and 'Who in your class do you admire and why?'. This made the Nightingales really think about the week and reflect on what they have achieved.

Nightingales Science experiment this week was Blobs In A Bottle. The class made their own lava lamps and made predictions on what would happen if some variables were changed. They also found out that oil is lighter than water.

Moving on into Week 2 the Nightingales have also won SAM and PAM the punctuality and attendance awards! So, all in all, an outstanding start to Year 3!!!

Carnival Crazy!

Another massive well done to the children in Nightingales class who produced some excellent home projects for our topic 'Carnival'.
Here are some of us in our masks and headdresses! As well as this, we also made carinval games and did lots of research.
Excellent job!

Nightingales' Egyptian Day

On Thursday 11th February, Nightingales had an Egyptian Day to celebrate all the hard work we have done over the past half term
We had an action packed day!! To start with, we were very excited about being in our costumes and took lots of photographs. Everyone looked amazing!
After that, we went into the hall with the rest of KS2, where we were visited by Dave from Histrionics who told us a Greek legend. It was hilarious - everyone got involved! Here is a picture of Grace in full acting mode!
After that, we finished off our Egyptian Death masks and collars...(suddenly a very scary looking class!!!)

After break, we recapped what we know about mummification- and then had a go ourselves. It is really not as easy as it looks!

Mrs Meddings getting ready to pull out the brains!!
All groups did so well!! We were so impressed with the neatness of some of the bandaging!

After lunch, we were just minding our own business when the Romans invaded!!!

After we had been beaten by the Romans, we made up and had a friendly feast!

We had a fantastic day!!! Thank you so much to all the adults that helped.
