This Tuesday, linking with our Power of Reading week, children in key stage 2 had a trip to Southampton to meet two authors Ali Sparkes and Steve Cole. Ali Sparkes is best known for her Shapeshifter series and Steve Cole for his Astrosaurs series of books. Both authors gave us inspiring talks about their own writing and lots of encouragement to those who want to become writers themselves.

Potato Harvest Time
Over the last few months, year 3 and 4 have been growing potatoes outside their classrooms and today was harvest day. Our bags of potatoes were opened and our crop was weighed and the potatoes shared out amongst the children. We had entered a potato growing competition run by the potato council. Southampton School's Athletics
Here are the photos from the Southampton school athletics competition held today. Bitterne Manor entered a full team of 30 pupils who competed against 15 other schools from the city at the city sports ground. All the children did extremely well in all their events and (very proudly!) our team came 8th overall! There were some outstanding individual performances from Ryan in year 4 and Shani in Year 5. Well done everyone! Thanks to all the parents who came to assist and support us!

Year 4 Guitars
The children learning guitar in Year 4 performed a few of their songs to the class - we were so impressed that we thought we'd like to share one that we recorded on our blog. It's a great tune as well!

Mary Rose trip
Year 3 have started to learn about the Tudors.
We are looking forward to our trip next week to the Mary Rose exhibition at Portsmouth. There we will be finding out more about Tudor life and will be able to view, and handle, artefacts from King Henry VIII's flagship!
