Boys Singing Workshop

The boys in Years 5 & 6 went along to a fantastic singing workshop at Oakwood Junior School. The session was run by a performer from the Royal Opera House in London. He taught the boys how to warm up and use their voices. They put this to good use by learning a Beatles number and an African song. It was a great afternoon!

Year 5 & 6 visit the Book Festival

This week Years 5 & 6 were lucky enough to meet the author Ali Sparkes. During her excellent talk she explained how she started out as a writer (whilst she was a pupil at Bitterne Park Secondary School!) and where her ideas for her stories come from. She emphasised the importance of never giving up and has inspired some of our young writers!

Year 4 Sewing

Year 4 are in full production on their Moneybags - looking forward to selling their creations at the Summer fayre next week!

Ali Sparkes and Steve Cole

This Tuesday, linking with our Power of Reading week, children in key stage 2 had a trip to Southampton to meet two authors Ali Sparkes and Steve Cole. Ali Sparkes is best known for her Shapeshifter series and Steve Cole for his Astrosaurs series of books. Both authors gave us inspiring talks about their own writing and lots of encouragement to those who want to become writers themselves.

Potato Harvest Time

Over the last few months, year 3 and 4 have been growing potatoes outside their classrooms and today was harvest day. Our bags of potatoes were opened and our crop was weighed and the potatoes shared out amongst the children. We had entered a potato growing competition run by the potato council. Southampton School's Athletics

Here are the photos from the Southampton school athletics competition held today. Bitterne Manor entered a full team of 30 pupils who competed against 15 other schools from the city at the city sports ground. All the children did extremely well in all their events and (very proudly!) our team came 8th overall! There were some outstanding individual performances from Ryan in year 4 and Shani in Year 5. Well done everyone! Thanks to all the parents who came to assist and support us!
