Today we were all amazed by the fantastic Watoto Choir from Uganda. The choir is made up of Ugandan children who have been orphaned. They have performed previously at Buckingham Palace and The Whitehouse!
Bitterne Manor were honoured to enjoy their brilliant singing and dancing talents. Some of our children were excited to be picked to have a go at chanting and dancing.
What an experience for us all...

Art Attack!
The whole school enjoyed a fantastic day of art activities with a multicultural theme. There was batik, printmaking, drawing, weaving, collage, sand art and mask making all happening at the same time! We created an amazing gallery from all our work and had an exhibition of framed pieces in the hall. Each class has also made a globe representing a country of their choice which will be displayed around the school.

Voucher Rewards!
This years School voucher collection is complete! Our totals for this year have been 13084 Tesco and 12202 Sainsbury vouchers collected on our behalf. Thank you to everyone for donating your vouchers to us. We have already put together our order and we'll receive our free resources by September. To give you an idea of what we use them for - this is a picture of a handheld digital microscope which we can purchase using vouchers - something useful that we don't have access to at the moment. Rather than saving for one big thing we talk to the school council and staff about what they would like and choose from the wide range of resources available. This year some of the items we have ordered include a microscope, a bird hide, a bamboo water channelling set, some club cricket sets, a pop-up target and velcro balls, some rainbow river stones and a game called 'Goalball'!

Following on from their 'Pop Art' project Year 6 have been to visit the Andy Warhol exhibition at the City Art Gallery. They got to see first hand some of the work they have studied and were very impressed with the size of some of the prints! After their tour the children had a wire sculpture workshop where they were taught how to create a face in a Pop Art style. These creations look fantastic!

St Mary's Stadium
This week Year 5 have been learning lots about the impact of St Mary's Stadium on the city. We have been working towards writing a persuasive letter of objection to a local MP to prevent the demolition of St Mary's in order to make room for more affordable housing. Children have been acting in role and we have visited the stadium in order to learn more about it, particularly the role of the Saints Foundation in the community. Here are some images of us enjoying our trip to the stadium!
