Year 4s river trip

Though cold, Year 4 wrapped up well and enjoyed a sunny day at Cheriton, close to the source of the River Itchen. We employed some Geography field study skills as we measured the depth of the river in 2 places, its width and how fast the water flowed.

This was exciting as the children dropped a satsuma each into the water and timed how long it took to travel between 2 bridges. Some were soon underway, some got caught in water reeds and were slowed down, some were moved along by helpful ducks, and one is still thinking about WHEN it will move into the current and bob along down past Cobden Bridge and out into Southampton Water. Keep a look out for 28 satsumas travelling along on their river adventure!

Gong Xi Fa Cai!

Year R have been learning about Chinese New Year. Many thanks to the parents who took their children to see the lion dancing at West Quay shopping centre last weekend. The Year R children loved making up their own lion and dragon dances and singing a Chinese New Year song.

RE in Year 3 and 4

Year 3 and 4 enjoyed an RE themed day led by Southampton's City Mission team. The day was based around journeys and the activities included a treasure hunt and making your own board games and rules to show Jesus' journeys. Well done Year 3 and 4!

Road Safety Training...

Safety clubs have started today! Our team of JRSOs from Year 6 are supporting younger children in learning how to cross the road safely. They set up a pretend road in the playground with safe places to cross and children practised following the Green Cross Code.
Find the safest place to cross.
Stop just before you get to the kerb.
Look all around for traffic and listen.
If traffic is coming let it pass.
When it is safe, go straight across the road - do not run!

Victorian art!

In year 5, we have been getting to grips with William Morris designs and having a go at producing our own William Morris inspired designs, using tile printing techniques! We had lots of fun creating our tiles, which have resulted in some fantastic prints!

Year 3 Egyptian Feast

Year 3 enjoyed rounding off their last topic with a fantastic Egyptian feast. All children made a sandwich fit for a Pharaoh (Mr Adams). After the feast children put their new mummification knowledge and skills to to the test and finished the afternoon off with some Egyptian dancing.

Year 4 update

After learning about the parts of a river, as part of our topic work, Year 4 had great fun creating their own river! They made sandbanks to direct the water and the 'river' widened as it flowed down from its source - very realistic. The best part was testng it! Buckets of water were poured into the source and down the water flowed and out into the 'sea'. There was some flooding - but that happens in real life too.

Another highlight this term has been our involvement in the World of Water project run by Saints FC and Southern Water. Thank you to all the families that took part in the water usage survey. It's amazing just how much water we use daily, isn't it! Caprice was the lucky winner of the draw for a pair of Saints tickets to an upcoming match. Well done!

The school currently has the loan of 4 sets of handbells. In our Music lessons, the children have been learning to play them and are able to play the tunes to a couple of songs. It sounds amazing! Well done Year 4.

The class would like to invite their parents and family to a school assembly at 9am on Friday 3rd February in the hall. We'll then be able to share with you a range of the work that's we've been doing this term.
