Summer Fair Success!

We would like to thank all of you who made our Summer Fair a success last Friday. We managed to raise over a thousand pounds to support the school! The PTA and helpers did an amazing job organising the fair and it was brilliant to see so many people come along. Thanks to all those who helped before, during and after by setting up, running stalls and tidying up afterwards!

(I would also like to extend a special thanks to all those who put cash in my bucket resulting in the picture to the left...)

RE days

The whole school recently took part in a Barnabas RE day, where we all completed activities to explore how the Olympic sporting values can be seen through the eyes of faith and belief. This year we have also been lucky to have RE based days led by the Southampton City Mission team. Year 1 and 2 spent the day listening to stories and finding out about light and Christianity. We made our own candles and lighthouses. Thank you City Mission for your fantastic RE days.

Year 1 and 2 visit the Gurdwara!

Year 1 and 2 went on a trip to visit the Gurdwara and we spent the morning finding out more information about Sikhism and this special place of worship. We had the chance to try Langar (a free Vegetarian meal served at the Gurdwara) and this was very popular with the children! Well done Year 1 and 2 for your fantastic behaviour during this trip and for your brilliant questions and answers.

DT Day in Year 5!

On Tuesday, Mr Wilkinson, an engineer from Moog UK, helped us to learn what an engineer does and how they impact on the design and making of bridges. We had a chance to design our own bridges with a partner, before making them out of art straws, string and lolly sticks. We had to work within a budget and make sure it could bridge a gap of 15cm. At the end of the day, we were able to test our bridges to find out whose was the strongest! Some of our bridges managed to hold over 7kg!

Music Celebration

Tuesday night was our annual celebration of all the musical talent at Bitterne Manor Primary School. This is the chance for pupils to share their musical prowess and entertain us all with what they've learnt over the last year. Thanks and well done to all those children who took part and we hope you continue to enjoy making music next year.

New Tennis equipment

Two teachers from Bitterne Manor went on a tennis training course, which meant the tennis foundation awarded the school with 2 brand new kits of tennis resources. Year 5 and 6 have enjoyed setting up the equipment and playing a few games. Maybe we will have an 'Andy Murray' in the making!

Bring on the Olympics

Some children from Bitterne Manor were lucky enough to watch Britains Olympic divers training session at the Quays. Pete Waterfield, Stacey Powell and Chris Mears took to the boards and amazed us with a display of acrobatic diving. They then took time to come and talk to the children and answer their questions.
