It was great to welcome some parents as we were led round Roman Southampton (Clausentum) by local archaeologist Dr Russel. The school site is built along the outside of the rampart wall of the Roman town. History was brought alive as we were shown the sites of artefacts during excavations, for example a bag of Roman coins and even the skeleton of a Roman woman!
What a brilliant way to begin our Roman topic work this term. The class will be following up this trip with a visit to Fishbourne Roman Palace shortly. Can't wait! Thanks to the parents who came along too.

Push and pull!
This week, year 1 are learning about push and pull forces in science. Today we were experimenting with different equipment that used the push or pull force! We learnt that wind can push a weather vane, that water can push a water wheel and that magnets can both push and pull!
Year 1 visit Blue Reef!
Last week, year 1 visited Blue Reef aquarium in Portsmouth. We particularly enjoyed looking at the seahorses and the sting rays! There were lots of interesting creatures and we even got the chance to stroke a spider crab and a star fish! We were all very brave! In the afternoon, we learnt how to do rubbings. Some of them are up on display outside our classroom!
The Green Ship!

Year 6 and their terrific tiles!
Year 6 designed tiles based on a sea theme as part of their 'Coasts' topic. Working in pairs, they made their tiles in clay and used joining techniques to make them 3D (this was very tricky!). The tiles were then decorated. The end results look fantastic and are displayed outside the classroom!
