Book Sale!

Finally!  The children were able to put all their new skills into practice.

Today saw the children's book sales and both Mrs Freeman and myself were very proud of all the effort that they put into designing and running their book shops.

The children showed that they were very knowledgeable about the books that they were selling and were tested by many parents!

The children really showed off their customer service and were praised for their friendliness and politeness!

And... of course there was my favourite emporium!

DITCHFIELD'S !!!

Maths week!

What a busy week!

On Monday we completed our Maths trails.  The children loved putting their maths into action, solving real problems outside of the classroom.

On Tuesday, year 3 and 4 were visited by Nicky from Waterstones and she helped us to design our book shops.  The children learnt a lot about how to present books, how to entice people in to buy their stock and all about customer service.

Year 5 Maths through books

Today, we looked at the book 'How many Jelly Beans'? The children looked at estimating, counting, averages, mass and length, and putting jelly beans into criteria. We had so much fun - parents enjoyed it too!

Monday Maths Trails

On Monday, the whole school were out and about around the grounds, looking for Maths in our environment. Every class tried out a trail, and are now designing their own.

Here are some highlights from Year 5 and 6 - we hope the trails will be available for classes to try out by the end of the week!

Year 5/6 are inspired by Johnny!

On Monday morning, Year 5 and 6 joined St Denys Primary School at Chamberlyne Secondary School to hear an inspiring lecture by TV personality and mathematician extraordinaire Johnny Ball.

He demonstrated everything from Fibonacci to Newton's Law, and showed us just how Maths affects our everyday lives.

Look out for more photos and information in this weeks Daily Echo!

Johnny shows us the rule of Fibonacci.

Miss Blightman was a little star struck and had to get a photo!
