Archaeology Day Part 2

Year 3 have had a fantastic afternoon learning more about archaeology and Stone Age life.  We took part in 3 activities- an archaeological dig where we discovered artifacts and wrote about them, Stone Age cave painting and discovering all about food. Stay tuned for more photographs in the form of a pod cast!

Hands on learning in year 6!

The learning doesn't stop in year 6.  Today we were using our 'hands-on' learning values in our DT lesson.  The children were tasked with building the tallest and strongest tower as part of a team.  The children were only allowed to use the materials they found on their tables, had to work as a team and their towers had to support a box of paperclips.  The children loved it and learnt a lot about reinforcing structures.  They even asked to do it again next week!

Mayan sundials

Year 4 have been looking at the number system of the Maya and have been learning to tell the time in Maths.
Here are some of the sundials we have been building. We are just waiting for a very sunny afternoon to test them all out!

Milford - Part Deux!

Well, it was certainly a different day today (weather wise!)  Again, the children behaved exceptionally well and their excellent behavior was remarked on, but we did get a little wet!  (We have decided that Mrs Hayward is a weather jinx.  Two years in a row it has rained whilst Mrs Hayward has been present on the Milford outing!)

We are considering not inviting her next year!

The children found out lots of information about the storms in February and had the opportunity to ask the restaurant staff about their experience.  The children asked excellent questions and all used their tablets to record answers either with the video, note taking facility or with the sound recorder.

(Then Mrs Hayward left - spot the weather difference!)

It was a wonderful day!  Well done year 6.

Year 6 in Milford

We have had the most wonderful time in Milford today.  The children looked at the coastal defenses and investigated the improvements the council have made since the storms in February.  We were lucky enough to visit the Marine restaurant that was affected by the freak weather this year and even recorded an account by a waitress that actually worked that night.  The children behaved impeccably and used their tablets wisely.   Well done year 6, you were a credit to the school.   I am sure tomorrow's group will be just as fantastic!
