Sunflower Update

Some of our sunflowers look amazing... unfortunately, some are in need of a little attention after the half term of neglect. Well done to those classes who have managed to work hard and care for their plants - Year 1's (above) especially look amazing! The one's below are from the office and look barely alive...?

Gold for Charlie!

Congratulations to Charlie in Year 6, who represented the South region at the National Semi-Finals of tumbling and trampolining in Peterborough, at the weekend. Despite stiff competition from all around Britain, including Scotland and Wales, he won gold in his category! The finals are in Telford, in July. Here is a link to a video so you can see what he does. He clearly has worked incredibly hard to achieve this high standard.

Scaffolding Up!

The scaffolding has now been put up around half the school building over half term. We are business as usual for the time being - classrooms and all entrances and exits are accessible. Work on the roof will begin next week after the team have set up their compound and resources. We'll keep you posted! The children were mostly excited about the toy dinosaur they noticed on the scaffold - have you spotted it yet? Perhaps one the builders has a sense of humour?

Kathakali Artists visit Bitterne Manor!

We were very lucky to have very special visitors come to our school and perform! As part of Year 3 and 4's study of Hinduism we welcomed a company of world-class artists from south India, (actors, drummers, singers and make-up artists) to highlight the rich heritage created and nurtured by the remarkable people of Kerala.

They led a drumming workshop with Year 3 in the morning and then they performed a Kathakali routine to KS2 in the afternoon. Kathakali is the male classical dance drama of Kerala, originated in the temples in the 17th century to bring the Hindu epic stories to the local people through storytelling.

The whole school enjoyed looking at the very striking costumes and make-up and we had the chance to see the make-up process and ask lots of questions.

Pop this Art!

We couldn't resist sharing some this rather cool looking 'Pop art' by Year 6. Very imaginative!

Great balls of fire!

Year 2 finished their half term topic 'London's Burning' in style with some fantastic Home Learning Project presentations.  The children were asked to tell the story of the Great Fire of London in any way they wanted to, and present it to the class. They blew us away, once again, with their imaginative ideas. We saw puppet shows,  news reports, artwork, role play, props and much more as the children took it in turns this week to tell their story.  Thank you to all the friends and family for your support and well done Year 2!
