Year R enjoy learning about Autumn!

We have been very busy learning all about Autumn by putting on our welly boots and coats and exploring outside!

We also enjoyed our trip to the Church and hanging up our Christmas tree decorations!

Year R enjoy Maths day!

We started the day with a phone call from Santa who set the children lots of challenges! For example, we helped to count money and price toys and then we had fun creating our own sleigh and delivering the presents! We created our own wrapping paper using a repeating pattern design.  We also received ice from the North Pole with numbers and shapes trapped inside, we had to think of ways to get them out!

Healthy Teeth!

The class would like to say an enormous 'Thank you' to Mrs White, who came in to talk to us about how we can keep our teeth healthy!

Hidden sugar in our drinks - WATER please!!

We discovered that there is lots of  hidden sugar in our favourite drinks and the affect that this can have on our teeth!

We also lean't how to brush our teeth correctly and the amount of tooth paste needed.  A pea sized amount only on your brush please!

After turning her teeth blue with a disclosing tablet, Mrs Johnson also demonstrated - for two minutes, the amount of time we should spend every morning and night brushing our teeth to keep them healthy.
Our egg experiment - what will these drinks do to the egg shells?
We have set up an egg experiment to see what happens when hard boiled eggs are left in different drinks over a week.  Only time will tell........

Maths Day with Year 4

The children had a fantastic day working with Year 3.  We started the day by reading "A Present for Santa Claus" by David Wood.

Story Time

After reading the story, we split into our different classes.  We had to work out how much money, the main character had saved over a six week period.  The amounts varied from 6p to £300!
Working hard to find out how much money Sam had to spend!
Santa had luckily heard about our Maths Day and had written to Rooks and Nightingales offering suggestions on potential presents.  After break, we worked together in groups to decide on a present for Santa!  We researched our options, found out prices, and even worked out any change we might get.

Team Work - What shall we buy Santa?

In the afternoon, we were given the task of persuading the suppliers (Argos, Amazon and even Ebay) to donate or offer a discount on our desired gift.  We made some very persuasive arguments, I wonder if they will work!
Santa deserves lots of presents!

Year 3 and 4 Maths Day!

Year 3 and 4 had a great time on Maths Day!

In the morning, we worked out how much Sam (the character in the story) would save over 6 weeks, given different amounts of coins.

After that, we looked at catalogues and websites from different suppliers and worked out what we would like to buy Santa from a list -

-Something to keep him warm
-Something to entertain him
-Something to make his home more pretty!

We had different amounts of money depending on how much we had saved earlier in the day.

In the afternoon, we wrote persuasive letters to the companies, asking them to give us a discount or a donation in our mission to make Santa have the best Christmas ever!

Year 5 enrichment day!

Year 5 had a fantastic time yesterday on our enrichment day learning all about "operation Christmas Child", and the shoebox appeal.  We buddied up with year 6 to locate countries on a world map and create graphs about flight times to each destination. We then wrote in role as a toy inside a shoebox on its journey to its new home. Super learning year 5 - well done!

Year 6 Maths

Year 6 have been finding out about the 'Operation Christmas Child' appeal where gifts are sent in  shoeboxes to children all over the world who might not otherwise receive any presents at Christmas. They have located the countries the shoeboxes are sent to on a map and have carried out lots of calculations linked to the distances they must travel and the cost of sending these gifts!
