Lots of learning in Year R!
We have been very busy over the last few weeks!
In Maths, we have been learning how to add and we have been recording our number sentences! We will explore subtraction next!
We were all very excited to be joined by Barnaby Bear who will stay with us this half-term! Barnaby Bear is teaching us all about where we live as well as different countries! We are learning facts and we write these in our travel diaries.
So far, we have 'travelled' to London on the train to find out more about our capital city. We also 'flew' to South Africa, where we acted out 'We're Going on a Lion Hunt". Did we find a lion? Have a look at the pictures to find out!

Our New Equipment In Action!
We've got some very happy and active children enjoying our new play area in school! Thanks to the PTA and Lottery Fund - we're really going to make the most of it!
Winners at our school
A huge well done goes to some of our children today who were invited to the mayors chambers last night after becoming winners and runners up in an unusual suspects competition. The children were encouraging others to recycle some of the more unusual items that often get forgotten. Some of the winning entries will be seen around Southampton. Well done to everyone who entered, you did amazingly!

Year 6 Bootcamp!
We are reading the story 'Stormbreaker' in which a teenage boy (Alex Rider) becomes an agent for MI6. As part of his preparation for the mission, Alex is sent to an SAS training camp. Year 6 are writing from the point of view of Alex and so we put them through their paces at 'Bootcamp' in order for them to understand his experiences!
Fairytale Day
Last week, to hook us into our 'Happily Ever After' topic, Year 1 spent the day exploring different aspects of Fairy Tales. In the morning, we split into 4 different groups and took part in activities, such as:
Reading and acting out the Gingerbread Man:
Reading and acting out the Gingerbread Man:
Creating a fairy tale castle from 2D shapes:
Decorating and describing our own Gingerbread Man:
as well as making our own hats and shields!
In the afternoon, we were sent a letter from Cinderella inviting us to her ball. We had to make our passports before we boarded the plane.
When we arrived at the ball,we were paired up into boys and girls and taught how to waltz!
At the end of the ball, Cinderella thanked us for coming, we boarded the plane and came back to school!
We had a fantastic day- thank you to all the children for being wonderful and parents for providing such brilliant costumes!

YEAR 5 READY TO WRITE!
Year 5 have had their imaginations ignited this morning as they took part in a "Live lesson" of BBC Radio 2's 500 words competition launch. We tuned in on-line to join in the live lesson, which was hosted by Naga Munchetty and Barney Harwood. We now have a range of great ideas for the plot, characters and setting of our stories and are excited to become authors. The children have until Thursday 26th February to submit their entries. Good luck and remember - have fun!!
