ECO and recycling

Yesterday we were lucky enough to have the ladies from the Southampton recycling team come in to talk to us all about recycling and what we can and can't put into the recycling bins at home.
We then got to use an MRF machine in teams to sort through different materials and separate them into groups just like they do at the council.

We even learnt that plastic bottles when they are recycled can be turned into more plastic bottles or even clothes.  Some jumpers and fleeces are made from the fibers of a plastic bottle. Who knew?

A big thank you to Loretta and Becky from the recycling team for coming in and teaching us all about recycling.

Year 1 hlp

All we can say is wow! The children and their parents have been very busy during the half term holiday making some amazing skeletons for us. We have skeletons that move, are made from a range of things and simply look outstanding. The children have then explored themselves and what makes them special as well as compared themselves to other members of their family.
Well done year 1.

Around the world in Year R!

We have had lots of fun 'travelling' to different countries and learning many facts! We thought carefully about similarities and differences between countries and we have been working hard to write words and sentences so that we can record these findings in our diaries.

We thoroughly enjoyed preparing for our Chinese New Year party and then eating the food! We also enjoyed meeting our very own Chinese dragon and using him in our PE dance!

We look forward to learning lots more as we launch our new transport topic, Zoom!

Bitterne Manor JRockers!!

A huge well done to all the children who took part last night in J Rock! Though the school was not placed in the top 4, the team did extremely well and amazed us all. Everyone there watching was extremely proud to be part of BMPS team, including my own daughter who now wants to join the school!!!

A big thank you too to all the adults who helped out; from costume making, set design to keeping the children entertained on the day!!  Also a huge thank you to Lia, Hannah and Miss Joseph. All the stress and hard work was worth it.

J Rockers - you did us proud!!!

Spy training!

Kestrels have enjoyed a great day today at Spy Training HQ.  All trainee agents created undercover identities for themselves and had their ability to memorise false data tested.  Who would blow their cover?  Answer....none!  They were all remarkably good at lying!!  All agents also undertook a mission to retrieve an object of importance to MI6 (pictures of blueprints, evil villains and top secret files....) from around the school.  This was achieved by using their code-cracking skills, teamwork and powers of observation!  This proved quite a challenge for some of our agents but I am proud to report they all rose to it....watch out MI6 we may have found you some future recruits!

Rooks Carnival Workshop

On Wednesday, children in Rooks were visited by Gina and Helen from the New Carnival Company. We warmed up to Carnival music and then got the chance to try on some amazing headdresses! We then designed our own based on the theme 'Under the Sea'. We then turned these into our own wonderful headdresses!!
It was a brilliant morning!

Rooks at Fishbourne

Some pictures from today's visit to Fishbourne Roman Palace with Rooks. Everyone had a really interesting day investigating the mosaics and artefacts. We also had an excellent talk by one of the museum staff and some fun activities. Thankfully, all the 'slaves' were given their freedom at the end of the trip!
