Church Service

Thanks to those of you who attended and supported our Church service at the Ascension in Bitterne on Monday. Our pupils sang and read brilliantly, of course, and it was a lovely moment of reflection around Christmas in the perfect of settings. Thanks to the Revs Will and Andy, and their team, for hosting us.

Advent that makes a difference

This year in Skylarks we have an advent calendar that is slightly different this year...it is all about our well-being!
Each day has an activity for us to do, such as thinking of 3 good things that have happened this week or saying thank you to someone that day. There have been such wonderful and kind activities to do and Skylarks can't wait to see what's next!

Fund Raising & Helping the Environment

This is an amazing news story about one of our pupils who has been raising money for the school by helping clean up our local area. I was totally overwhelmed to hear that Zach had raised over £400 for his school by collecting litter, in his own words, to help reduce plastic and helping all the animals. All of this in his own time and on his initiative. What an inspiration to be able to do something that helps the environment and raises money for others. He should be very proud, as we all are, of his efforts. I'd like to thank him for his contribution to the school and for showing what a big difference can be made when you put your mind to it, no matter how big or small you are.

PTA Events!

A massive thank you to our SUPER PTA for organising the 'Neon Disco' and recent film club event.  The children thoroughly enjoyed these and can't wait for the next events in the Spring term! It's our PTA that help raise money for our school through events like these.  Thank you for your support in allowing them to do that!

Keeping safe in the dark

In Kingfishers we have been talking about how to keep safe in the dark.  Now that Winter is here we have noticed it getting dark much earlier.  Last week the class had looked at light resources.  We used what we had discovered about light sources to help us when thinking about what we can use to make sure we can be seen in the dark.  The children thought about how people on bikes have flashing lights and reflectors.  We discussed what we could do if we were talking in the dark, such as using torches and wearing reflective clothing.

We then made a dark den to experiment with light sources and a variety of reflectors.

Spectacular Plants Competition Winner

We are very pleased and proud to announce that one of our pupils was a winner in the Royal Horticultural Societies' Spectacular Plants competition. He has been awarded a signed copy of the book 'Spectacular Plants' by Stewart McPherson and a collection of interesting plants from all over the world to take home and look after. The competition involved designing an interesting and imaginative plant which he did. We know he has a keen interest already in plants which is perfect! He was also supported and encouraged by our nature loving and very eco friendly ELSA team pictured here with him. Congratulations! The school will also receive a donation of some seeds, books and other activities in the new year.
