Investigating Autumn

Kingfishers have been learning about this time of year.  We have been finding out about hedgehogs, their habits and homes.  The children have made their own clay hedgehogs, thinking about the shape and textures they needed to make their creations.  We have also been finding out about animals that hibernate and why they do this.

We have been exploring the signs of Autumn, thinking about how nature has changed in the last few weeks.

In maths we have been using natural objects to make repeating patterns.  We have also been adding pegs onto hedgehogs to give them a set number of spikes.  Some of us have been working out how many spikes the hedgehog would have if we added one more.

Anti-bullying week

Our Kingfishers have been talking about what bullying is and why it is not O.K.

We have been thinking about what we can do to make sure we are kind and good friends to others.

Here are some of their ideas.

 Smile at people

 hug friends

 let them play

 see if friends are o.k.

Some of our Kingfishers have completed their puzzle piece homework and have come up with some super designs.

A Massive Thank You!

A huge thank you for raising an impressive £216.05 for Children In Need this year.  It was fantastic to see so many interesting outfits  - the children fully embraced the event and should feel very proud of the money raised.

Robins get arty on the first day of Anti-bullying Week!

In light of this week being Anti-bullying week, we have been looking at a new book called 'Monty the Manatee'.

In this book we follow Monty on his first day at sea school and the troubles he faces from bullies. We spent the afternoon creating our own jellyfish from the book ready to use in our role play session tomorrow!

Take a look at some of our jellylicous Jellyfish!

Scallywag Skylarks ARRRGGHH doing amazing writing!

Take a look at this incredible writing produced by the wonderful Skylarks class! We have had such a fun start to our new topic of Pirates and the children have really enjoyed the learning around this subject!

For this piece of writing the class had the opportunity to create their own PIRATE WANTED POSTER! They all did amazingly well! I was so proud of their enthusiasm to learn and the wonderful pride in their books!

Take a peak below... :)

Kestrels Sorting Keys

In Science, Kestrels we have been learning about classification and using sorting keys. To help us understand how these work, we had a go at using keys to sort Liquorice Allsorts! Here are some of our keys.

Kingfishers have been remembering

In Kingfisher class we have been talking about why we have Remembrance Day.  The children have taken part in a number of activities based upon this.

They have used our 'Remembrance' stones to talk about wars and soldiers.

The children have been using red, green and black beads to make Remembrance bracelets, and other lose parts and play dough to produced some poppy art.  These activities are great for developing their fine motor skills.

In our maths work we have been thinking about 1 more.  The children counted out a given number of poppies, and then one more.  They also needed to place a set number of red, black and green beads onto spaghetti sticks.
