As part of our 'Down in the Woods' Topic our Kingfishers spent Tuesday at Swanwick Lakes Nature Reserve. We had such a super time despite the weather.
Travelling on the minibus also brought much excitement!
The children took part in a number of enjoyable activities.
In our sensory session we closed our eyes and counted the different sounds we could hear, trying to identify where they came from and what they could be. We also worked in small groups to make a 'feel' egg box. Each group was given a word and had to find natural items to represent that word. Then other groups needed to try to work out the word from what had been collected in the egg box. During this session we also had to try to find natural items of a certain colour.
The children had a brilliant time learning about different woodland habitats. In small groups they needed to choose a soft toy animal and build a home for them, thinking about where these animals live and what they use for their homes within the environment. Some of the homes looked very cosy.
One of the firm favourite activties was the minibeast hunt. Our Kingfishers were totally engrossed in finding insects in a variety of places. It was wonderful to hear some of the children laughing and squealing in delight when they saw the centipede wiggling in the magnifiying pot.
Our last activity of the day was producing some minibeast natural art. Can you work out the minibeast in each creation?
I think you would agree that the children's smiles tell you they had a fantastic time.
They were brilliantly behaved and should be proud of how they represented Bitterne Manor Primary School. They were a true credit to our school. Well done Kingfishers!
Thank you to the adults who volunteered to help on the day also- Mr. Bradley, Mr. P, Mr. Puckett and Mrs Carey. We couldn't have done it without you.
