Kingfishers take over Hillier Gardens!

Kingfishers take over Hillier Gardens!

Kingfishers had the most amazing day at Hillier Gardens and learnt so much about plants and minibeasts! What a great way to end our topic!

We started the day off with learning all about pollution and why bees are so important!

We played 'Bee Game' where we learnt about the life cycle of plants. First we had to pretend to be flowers. We started off as seeds, then as we grew we stomp down our roots, next we had buds which blossomed into flowers and then 'Betty bee' came and then we were pollinated. Life cycle started again!

After we had fun playing the game we started to explore the gardens!

We saw a Redwood Tree and learnt all about how it's bark is special. We all even got to give the tree a hug! We then went through the bamboo forest and then we had fun going over the wooden bridge that was a bit wobbly!

We had great fun pond dipping finding all the different creatures in the pond. Some of us even found some newts!

After our picnic lunch we went on a leaf matching hunt! We had to find the correct trees to match our leaves. We found a cherry, maple, pine and oak tree!

We ended the day looking for minibeast on a hunt!

Swifts have a very ROYAL day!

Today we have immersed ourselves on our Summer Topic buy having a Kings and Queens day! We came into school dressed like royalty and our classroom was fit for a King!

We started our day by Mrs Stubley teaching us how to waltz… it was very tricky! We worked in pairs and practiced the steps to some classical music.

We also learnt how to bow and curtsey and practiced this for the rest of the day by greeting others in this very royal way!

After playtime we created our very own CROWNS! We used gems to decorate them as well as golden stars and paper in the colour of the Union Jack!

In the afternoon we made sandwiches fit for a king! We filled our sandwiches with our favourite foods and had a garden tea party outside with our crisps and cake!

Bitterne Manor takes part in Light the South!

Our school is taking part in the Light the South art trail, taking over Southampton and Cowes with 90 unique and brilliant lighthouse sculptures.

40 of these – the Little Lights - are created by the area’s talented children and young people, all with the aim of raising vital funds for Southampton Children’s Hospital – the remainder are the work of professional artists both local and from further afield.

Our lighthouse has arrived in Swifts class and the class has already begun to think about designs for our sculpture. We can unveil a sneak preview below!

The aim of the project is also to raise money for the Southampton Hospitals Charity which does amazing work funding life saving equipment and improving outcomes for patients.

Every penny donated will help improve children’s experiences whilst in hospital. We have included a link below and we would appreciate your support in adding to our contributions towards this great cause...
