Year 2 visit Victoria Country Park

On Wednesday 27th March Year 2 visited Netley and Victoria Country Park. We walked through Netley and talked about what it was like compared to Bitterne, and then arrived at the country park. We saw the hospital where Florence Nightingale used to work, and built sculptures of minibeasts in the forest. Despite the cold (and the snow in the afternoon!) we had a brilliant day! Thank you to all the parent helpers, Mrs Peterson for helping out and Mr Puckett and Mrs O'Hara for driving the buses!

KS 1 Reward time

The house captains ran an obstacle course for KS1 children who have displayed excellent behaviour all of Spring 2.  The children experienced rope climbing, wall bars, balancing and a multiskill obstacle circuit.  They had great fun! Well done to all!

Gymnastics Festival

Southampton Gymnastics club hosted a festival for years 3 and 4.  Nine children from Bitterne Manor showed off their skills and ability by performing a sequence to music, including shapes, balances, partner work and individual sequences. We also watched some National gymnasts do an amazing routine. After the routines the children could practise new skills on different equipment.

Investigating our local area

After having to postpone our walk around the local area due to unseasonal snow flurries, today we investigated our local area in glorious sunshine!
We explored the area around our school, seeing trains, planes and lots of boats! We answered questions and did sketches of interesting things along the way.
Later in the term, we will be comparing Bitterne to Netley.
Year 2

A massive congratulations to all the children for their excellent behaviour - a member of the public even stopped me to comment on your sensible attitude to crossing the roads and being aware of what was around you. You were a pleasure to take out! Well done.

Supporting Guide Dogs for the Blind

Meet Jemma and her guide dog, Gus. Over the last year, we've been getting 'pupdates' which have allowed us to follow the progress of dogs like Gus being trained to become guide dogs. This training takes a lot of  money and a lot of dedication and the 'Guide Dogs for the Blind' association have been changing the lives of blind and partially sighted people for over 75 years. We were very lucky to have a visit from Jemma, who is blind, and her guide dog, Gus, to hear first hand what it's like to have a guide dog and the difference that makes to her everyday life. For more information, head over to www.guidedogs.org.uk and find out about how much it costs to train a guide dog and the work the charity does to support and raise awareness about  blind and partially sighted people.

Chelsea Tournament-Cobham, Chelsea training ground

What an amazing day! 10 Year 3 and 4 Boys from Bitterne Manor won the group stage with 3 high scoring wins. The boys blasted 7 goals into the net and only conceded 1, taking us clearly into the semi-finals.  We lost the semi by 1 goal. Our boys did us proud and the trophy was very nearly in our grasp. The boys were very excited and spotted some of the Chelsea players, however unfortunately autographs and photos were banned. The Chelsea officials will forward us their photos, so watch this spot. Well done boys and a big thank you to Mr Puckett for his endless enthusiasm and coaching.
