Bling your scooter and bike!

A huge thank you to those children who had taken time to 'bling' their scooter or bike! They looked great!

Fantastic Fairthorne!

A few more photos of the brilliant 2 days Rooks class had at Fairthorne Manor last week - I hope they all slept well at the weekend!
Lots more photos were taken - this is only a selection... there will be a letter coming home shortly to invite parents in to school to view a full slideshow!
Thank you to Mrs Meddings and Mr Gould for taking part and being such good sports, and of course parents for allowing children to come!

Owls Class balances in PE

We have recently been exploring 'balance' in PE!  We have been working together to create partner balances using a variety of equipment.  Our final performances were packed full of individual and partner work as well as some original transitions between the equipment!

Fairthorne Fun!

The children had all arrived safely and were having fun in the sun when I visited. Not sure how long the sun lasted for though! One group spoke about facing a challenge, supporting one another and having lots of fun.  Even on a residential, they are learning to be the best they can!! I only got to see 2 groups as Mrs Meddings' group were deep in the forest somewhere!! So apologies for not getting pictures of all of them.

One more thing! Parents be warned...clothes will be muddy...VERY muddy!!!

Rooks Scrap Yard poetry Challenge

This morning in English, Rooks looked at the setting of the scrap yard, where the Iron Man settles. We explored what would be found there, and wrote a verse of a poem in home groups. We then put it together to make a class poem.
Well done Rooks- excellent descriptive phrases!

Rooks ‘Scrapyard Challenge’ Poem 20/3/17

A broken scooter lying still on the dirt,
Old, bent cutlery tumbling down from the rocky cliff edge.
A big helicopter still and unmoving.
As rusty as an old chain, a worn motorbike lays still.
A burnt out microwave falling from a hill crashing slowly to the ground,
Five tatty, old and rusty engines screeching as they roll down the hill.
CLINK, CLASH, BOOM!

Rusty springs and bolts clinging and clanking all day long
A television as tall as a rusty old truck.
A broken radiator covered from edge to edge in dust and cracks,
The wires are as long as a train and older than World War  Two.
Ragged nails and nuts swarming together as the wind blows,
A mouldy microwave nestling against a rusty pile of pans.
CRASH, BANG, WALLOP!

A TV being shoved down the fierce Iron Man’s throat
A black shiny wheel rolling round the dirty steel.
Exhausted engines rusting away in the wind
A computer tasting better than All You Can Eat at a buffet
A red old car lying in the metal scrapyard
An iron chain wrapping itself around a lamppost.
BANG! CRASH! WALLOP!

A broken microwave laying against an old pile of cars
A greasy old stove, beneath an old broken tractor.
An ancient rusty TV stuck under an engine
A broken boiler spewing with oil covered over by a metal blanket.
An enormous trailing chain running from one side to the other.
CLINK, CLINK, CLINK!

Greasy, old springs jumping, flipping, tumbling down the monstrous mountain
A rusty old tractor that has been silent and lying motionless for years.
Chains for a topping – whatever they’re on, they are perfect for a treat!
Rusty railway tracks that lie silently on the edge of the sharp cliff.
An old decaying black fridge laying on the mountain edge.
Forks, knives, spoons all clinking together as they spill down the hill.
CLINK! CLINK! CLINK!

The Iron Man was happy.

SWIFTS and MENTOS...!

Well...it is safe to say that the Swift class have absolutely loved Science Week! They have investigated and tested all sorts of weird and wacky experiments. As an epic end to a wonderful week we left the best until last!

Earlier today Swifts tested to see which bottles of liquid would react best with a packet of Mentos. They had three options: water, lemonade and coco cola.  In true Swift style, we predicted first, generated our scientific questions that we wanted to find out and set out to find the answers.

Below is a video of the lemonade and the coco cola...they were fab!

Well done Swifts, you've been super scientists all week!

Swifts Super Science continues...

Yesterday, super Swifts took part in another fun task linked to Science Week! They used their knowledge of 2D shapes and created a shape to test blowing bubbles with.  They had to create their shape out of wire and think about the size of it too! Once created, we predicted to see which mixture would work best.  Was it washing up liquid and water? Washing up liquid, water and glycerine or shower gel and water? Through a thorough test session of blowing bubbles (what fun it was) we knew which mixture was ideal.  It was in fact the... shower gel and water! The mixture was thicker than the other two and held the bubbles longer than the others.  Also, it did help having a smaller shape! Check out the fab pictures below...
