Owls have been exploring ancient artefacts!

To kick off Year 5's Ancient Greece topic, we went on an artefact hunt!

We started off by discussing what artefacts are and how they can be used to teach us about the past. We then had to find 8 photos of Ancient Greek artefacts. Once we had found them, we discussed the following questions in our groups:

  • What does it look like?
  • What is it made from?
  • What might it have been used for?
  • What does it tell me about life in Ancient Greece?

Finally, we were given the artefact cards which we needed to match up with the artefacts and place in chronological order to display. It really got us thinking about how things we find can teach us about life in the past!

A huge THANK YOU!

Thank you so much for all your kind donations of books to support the Matarajio School in Kenya.  There has been a fantastic response and I have no doubt they will be incredibly grateful to have so many new books to enjoy.  Well done to our pupils who launched the appeal in assembly and have been promoting it in school.

Southampton National Park City would like to hear from you!

The Southampton National Park City group is a community movement celebrating and supporting actions by the people of Southampton who want to create a city that is rich with nature and where everyone benefits from exploring, playing and learning outdoors.

We would like Southampton to be a National Park City. This is not the same as a rural National Park, but similarly a National Park City consists of a vision, partnership and a community of people working together to look after and improve the habitats, landscapes, communities and culture of urban life.
The answers you provide will be used to develop projects across the city and will form the basis of our application to become a National Park City.
Please see www.southampton-national-park.com for more information.

We want to hear from you to shape the priorities of the National Park city project and to bring people and nature closer together in your area – please share with your neighbours!

Sports Leadership Event

On Tuesday, 12 children were chosen from Year 5 and 6 to take part in a leadership event held at Bitterne Park School which involved working as a team, discussing what makes a good leader and then using that knowledge within their groups.  A lot was learnt and we aim to use this knowledge in the summer term.
