Good Afternoon,
In History this half term, Jays have been learning all about The Maya. It got us thinking about how we know so much about the past. With this in mind, we created a list of questions and had a long chat with Professor John Schofield (Miss Schofield's dad!) via zoom.
We learnt about the expensive artefacts he found, the newest artefacts, the oldest artefacts and how his career has taken him all over the world. He even told us about the time he was supposed to be guarding a neanderthal's tooth (which was set to be filmed for Blue Peter) and a robin hopped into the tent and flew away with it! We learnt that archaeology is happening all around us every day so at playtime we had a little scout of our surroundings to find things which had been dropped or left and tried to piece together the story behind it.
Miss Schofield was also really proud of the quality of our questions and also how respectfully we listened to the speaker.
There is also a Southampton branch of the Young Archaeologists' Club, who meet up every month and discuss all things archaeology. The link is here for anyone who is interested: https://www.yac-uk.org/
Well done, Jays!
