Cultural Day in Kestrels

Today in Kestrels we learnt all about Japan. We started by finding out about the location and geographical features of the country. We then had time to research an aspect of Japanese culture that we found interesting, such as food and samurai warriors. We also learnt how to make origami cranes. This afternoon, Mrs Puckett, who is Japanese, came to talk to us about life in Japan. She had some great facts and even taught us a few words in Japanese. We finished the day by having a go a drawing and creating our own manga characters. This is much harder than it looks!

Cultural Day FUN!

The Robins class learnt all about India today! We started the day with finding India on the map, located some oceans around it and learnt about some of the famous landmarks. One of them was all about the Golden Temple. Miss Sangha taught us some facts and showed us some pictures of it from her recent trip to India. We were lucky enough to see other pictures from her trip too.

Here are some pictures...

Miss Sangha then taught us all about the Indian Flag. She told us how the different colours mean something, for example, the orange strip means strength, the white strip means peace and the green strip means growth. The symbol in the middle (Dharma Chakra) represents truth.

Here are some pictures of us creating the Indian flag...

Miss Sangha then taught us how to count up to 10 in Punjabi. It was really fun!

Here's a video of us counting...

To end the day, we learnt all about Bhangra dancing! Miss Sangha showed us some moves and listened to some Punjabi music.

Here's us having a bogie...

As well as this, we got to show off our own cultures and what our traditions are.
It was really lovely! ⭐

Cultural Day in Kestrels

Kestrels had a fantastic day learning about a wide variety of cultures. This morning they had interesting talks from parent visitors about Nigerian, Kenyan and Somali cultures. They were lucky enough to try some delicious homemade snacks (samosas and kaimati).  They also enjoyed a class game of cricket!

This afternoon, our class 'experts' worked with small groups to teach their classmates about their cultural heritage. This included learning about language, religious beliefs and stories, festivals, popular games and looking at traditional costumes. They did an amazing job! We finished off the day with cakes decorated as part of our own Afternoon Tea.

Robins are Cultur-tastic!

Today has been a very exciting day for Bitterne Manor Primary School as we have celebrated our very own 'Culture Day!' It's been absolutely wonderful learning about everyone's culture and taking part in lots of fun activities.

We had a fab start to the day with a whole school assembly where a couple of parents shared stories from their culture. It was really fascinating to listen to. We were lucky enough to take part in a mask making activity with one of the parents who came and taught us all about her Italian culture.

Next, we shared our posters from our homework and learnt all about each other's cultures. This was really lovely because we all shared similar experiences and learnt about new ones. We wrote about this in our books.

In the afternoon Miss Sangha taught us all about her Culture. We learnt how to count to 10 in Punjabi and she showed us pictures from her time in India. It was really cool!

All in all, it has been a fantastic day and I've had a super time learning about everyone's cultures and sharing my own 😊
