It was a lovely day celebrating all the joy that books have brought to us! We think the children (and staff) really enjoyed dressing up as their favourite characters and sharing their favourite stories. Thanks to you all for supporting the children with their costumes - their love of books shone brightly today. Please continue to encourage their love of reading in whatever form that takes!

SUPER SWIFTS don't quit WBD!
Today has been the best day! Coming to school dressed in our PJs and spending the whole day celebrating our love for reading. Needless to say, the SUPER Swift class have thoroughly enjoyed it!
To tie in with WBD, we have spent this week looking at the book, 'The day the crayons quit!' Children spent time predicting what they thought would happen to these poor crayons, who quite frankly have had enough of their owner! They took on the role of a particular colour today and decided to write a letter to express why they wanted to quit! The letters are absolutely brilliant :) So much so that we even made a class book out of it. We can't wait for you to read them!
One of the activities allowed children to read on BUGCLUB! They thoroughly enjoyed this and earned lots of coins by completing the online quizzes. Keep it up SUPER Swifts! As well as this, each child got the opportunity to share their special book with a child from the Skylarks class. It was an absolute joy watching them read and hearing a story from an older child.
Thank you so much for all the WONDERFUL books that children have so kindly donated. You are all AMAZING! The heartfelt messages have made me want to read them all!
Here's a sneak peak of what we got up to today...

Bitterne Manor LOVE reading!
What a wonderful day it has been at Bitterne Manor Primary school! At a first glance, it looks as if the children and staff had gone a bit bonkers coming to school dressed in their PJs! Well, don't fear as it was all for a good cause...World Book Day!
This year's theme was to 'celebrate' books and my goodness we did just that! Each class has been immersed in a book which has helped them to develop their understanding and help show their love of reading.
Part of the day enabled children to log onto their BUGCLUB accounts and read online! It was great to see children having a go at the quizzes and earning lots of rewards. Keep your eyes peeled for a letter inviting you in from your class teacher to read with your child online. You can use this time to ask any questions that you may have regarding BUGCLUB or just simply come in to see how it works! All classes have been allocated a parent session this half term :)
Like last year, staff read a book to children during the 'share a story' session at lunchtime. This was a huge favourite! Children even got the opportunity to share their special book with a child from a different class. The books that children have kindly donated are beyond brilliant as are the meaningful messages stuck inside. A MASSIVE thank you to all you SUPER parents who have made this happen. These will be displayed in the library for children to read for years to come!
Thank you to all the staff and children for what seems to have been a very SUCCESSFUL World Book Day!
Finally time for bed now I think...
