"We learn something new every day..."
I should have realised by now never to question the ambition of our children to learn new things and, in this case, the ambition of Golden Eagles to achieve the impossible! We were sharing some of Year 2's work on birds of prey and I genuinely thought this picture in one child's work was the Eagle hitching a ride... how wrong was I! As it was pointed out to me: "We never stop learning - we learn something new every day!" That made me feel quite proud!

Learning Leader Elections 2016
Bitterne Manor Primary became a polling station today for the annual election of our Lead Learners. Each class has voted for two pupils to represent them on our School Council as Lead Learners. Each year we borrow real ballot boxes from Southampton's electoral services department and carry out a proper ballot democratically. The two children receiving the highest numbers of votes in each class are then officially elected. We will announce the results later today to the children.

Our Visitors from Spain...
We have had a fantastic week with our visiting students from Spain. The 8 pupils from Teruel have been marvellous ambassadors for their school and country. They have been working mainly with Kestrels all week and our children have really enjoyed learning about their life in Spain as much as they have been keen to share it! We would also like to say well done to Kestrels for the warm welcome they've shown to the students and for the all the families in our community who have hosted the students. We've had a real sense of community, shared values and togetherness that crosses national borders!

Proud to be Bitterne!
Here are some pictures from our 'Proud to be Bitterne' day. The photos feature some of the interesting activities that the children were engaged with including badge making, creating 'Brain of Bitterne' quizzes and designing a brand new game of 'Bitternopoly'! We had some really good ideas about what makes our community great and how we could improve it even further.

Proud to be a Parent...
It's our parent consultation this evening and next and we would like to ask parents write some feedback to their children about their work. As parents, we're always very proud of our children's efforts in school and elsewhere and while we do tell them often enough, for a change, we'd like to ask you to write a short note and leave it with your child's books. Another chance to tell them how proud you are of them!

Kingfishers and Puffins continue to settle in well to Bitterne Manor Primary School!
We are very proud of all of Kingfishers and Puffins for their fantastic start to school! We have been continuing to explore both classrooms and make friends through many activities.
We have also been discussing our learning values - using our super hands, hearts and heads in order to learn and to be the best that we can be!

Sharing the Challenge
As you know, we are promoting our learning values this term and focussing on ‘challenge’. With our Learning Leaders, we have been thinking about ways of sharing these values with friends and family at home. We would therefore like to ask you to share a challenge with us. Something that you, or a member of your family or friend, might have experienced or achieved. This could be in the past, something that you are doing right now or are planning in the future. If you feel able to, we would very much like you to share these with us in school. Please describe your challenge on some paper (there is a letter going home today!) and give it to your child to return to school. We very much look forward to hearing about your challenges and sharing these with the children in school. Our Learning Leaders feel it is important that we are all good role models for them.
We would appreciate it if you could return the challenge to us by the end of February. Feel free to add any additional pictures. Please don’t share anything with us that you are not happy being discussed with the children.
Kind regards
The Learning Leaders

Being Challenged!
It looks like the whole school is taking on the Challenge theme for the Spring term!
Please ask the children if they've been working on their challenges.
