Year 6 Fair Trade talk

This week Year 6 were visited by Mr. Mason from the Shirley Fair Trade shop as part of their 'Africa' topic. He talked to the class about Fair Trade and how it benefits producers in developing countries. He was particularly popular as he brought along some Fair Trade chocolate for everyone to try!

The class has also been busy producing African themed artwork, including some fantastic sunset scenes.

Parent Governor Vacancy

We currently have a vacancy for a Parent Governor.
This is a very important role as our Governors help to form the strategic direction of the school and act as critical friends. Our current group of governors come from a wide range of backgrounds and bring to us new ideas from other walks of life.
The full Governing Body meets six times a year, with other committee meetings being held half termly. Full training and induction will be given.

Further information can be found at: http://www.governornet.co.uk.
If you are interested, please contact the school.

Year 4 Anti-Bullying Week

This week we have been learning about how to be a good friend and what to do if someone is unkind to us. We have learnt how to say sorry and sort out problems. We thought about different problems children have at school and acted them out to help us decide the best thing to do. We then used this to write problem page advice about dealing with friendship and bullying problems. You can see our 'Very Useful Advice Book' in the classroom.

Anti-Bullying Week

This week is Anti-Bullying week in school. Children are learning about "Taking Action Together" and the role of the by-stander. Our key message is "bullying will stop if we take action together". Children are reminding each other what bullying is, how to deal with it and who can help. They are also learning what to do if they witness bullying.
We encourage parents to discuss this with their children and to come into school if they need any help or advice.
For further information try the following websites:

We hope these sites will support your understanding of anti-bullying and give some useful activities for children to try out at home.

Iron Men in the Making.....

An army has descended on Year 4!

We're reading the Iron Man by Ted Hughes. It's a power of reading unit and we have all really enjoyed it, children and adults alike. To link in with DT and Science we have designed our very own Iron Man. We looked forward to the day that we could create our Iron Men. Thursday 11th November was that day! It was organised chaos for the day, but great fun!

Our Iron Men come in all shapes and sizes, some talk and some have flashing lights.

They are all FAB, well done Year 4.

1940s Day!

Our 1940s fundraising and remembrance day got off to a great start despite the rain! The children and staff looked fantastic. The "Daily Echo" will hopefully be featuring our event with a photo. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to the Cenotaph Memorial Fund.
