Tyre Park visitors

Last week School Council Representatives from St. Monica Infant School visited us to have a look at our Tyre Park as they are thinking of getting one at their school.
Some of our own school councillors greeted the visitors and showed them what fun we have on our Tyre Park!

They swapped ideas about the types of games that can be enjoyed on the tyres and our councillors were able to explain how we use a rota to share the fun equally between classes!

Year 4 round off their 'Save our Rivers' topic

This week Year 4 will be visiting Cheriton, close to the source of the River Itchen. Our visit will give the children first hand experience of geography fieldwork and a chance to study elements of river formation.
The river source springs from underground, forming a pool of water

Year 4 parents are invited to an assembly at 9am on Friday morning, 8th February, to learn more about our topic work this term. We hope to see many of you there!

After school, also on Friday 8th February, the class are holding a cake sale to raise funds for the charity WaterAid, which we have been supporting. Their aim is to use practical solutions to provide clean water, safe sanitation and hygiene education to the world's poorest people. Please support us by visiting our cake sale. Thank you.

A busy day in Year 2!

Friday 1st February was a busy day in Year 2! In the morning, we had a visit from INTECH. In the first workshop, we learnt how to be 'Circuit Detectives, investigating broken circuits and how to fix them. Some of them were very tricky, but we got there in the end! In the second one, we turned an ordinary nail into a magnet, and then used this to make a motor! It was really good fun.

In the afternoon, we set up the classroom as a museum to display our fantastic home projects on our topic, Florence: The Soldier's Friend. Lots of hard work went into them and we were pleased to show them off!
Well done everyone!

PICs: Personal Internet and Cyber Safety

Pupils in Year 5 and 6 were visited by our local safe neighbourhood team from Hampshire Police for a talk about staying safe when online. The talk covered issues around Facebook, online games, mobile phones and cyber bullying. Children were given advice on what to do if they had concerns including the following 6 point plan:

There was an opportunity for parents to hear the same advice - if you missed that opportunity and would like to know more, please let us know!

Alien Adventures in Year 2!

Last week, Year 2 were very busy making alien puppets, which are characters from our Power of Reading book, 'Bob-the Man on the Moon'. We looked at a variety of puppets and investigated how they were made, before designing and making a model from paper. We then used our sewing skills to create the final version, which we used to retell the story. We hope you like them!

Snow Day!

I'd like to thank the staff who endured the difficult conditions to make their way into school today and ensure we were able to open at least for the morning. I'm sure that those children who made it to school appreciated that - enjoy the pictures!

Fantastic projects by Year 6!

A HUGE well done to Year 6 who have produced some amazing work for their 'Kenya' projects. They carried out detailed research and presented what they found in a wide variety of ways. The models, films, drawings, animations, and stories are all brilliant & the children should be very proud of their hard work.
