Kingfishers and Puffins make a great start to school life at Bitterne Manor!

We have very much enjoyed welcoming the new children and parents into Bitterne Manor over the last two weeks!

We have been busy exploring our classrooms and making new friends! Our favourites have been playing with the bikes, sand, water, blocks, dressing up, drawing, construction, listening to stories, finding out more about each other during circle times and lots of singing!

We also enjoyed becoming secret spies and exploring the rest of the school!

Please have a look at our photos!

Pupils had the chance this week to vote for their House Captains. All the Year 6 children who put themselves forward, read a speech about why they should lead their team. Some of them even gave out stickers! A big well done to all of them! The children then had 1 vote for who they wanted as their leaders. A huge well done to our new House Captains:

African Activity Day

Year 2 have had an amazing day learning how to play the djembe drums with our visitor from African Activities. We also learnt a traditional African dance and heard tales told through generations in a fun-filled day. Finally, we performed what we had learnt to our friends and family in an assembly.  No-one was safe from having a dance as Cheikh,  our leader, got the parents up to join in "freestyle"!!

Year 3 visit 'The Pig'

On Monday and Tuesday morning, Year 3 were so lucky to have the opportunity to visit The Pig restaurant in Brockenhurst.

We were shown around by chef director James Golding, who spoke to us about life at a hotel!
We saw the smokehouse (with lots of salmon!), the kitchen garden with a range of vegetables growing, which the chefs pick on a daily basis to use in dishes that day.

We even tried flowers from the garden!
We also saw quails, quails eggs and pigs! We looked in the pond to spot crayfish.

James also showed us where the piglets used to be kept. We squeezed in and had photos taken!

After that, we were shown around the kitchen and restaurant, and had a look the yummy menu!
At the end of our visit, we were given delicious homemade biscuits and apple and mint mocktails!

A huge thank you to James for showing us round with such enthusiasm, Miss Cryne for driving the bus and Mrs Rice for organising!

Year 4 Science

Year 4 have been looking at States of Matter and investigating gases today.

We have made CO2 by mixing bicarbonate of soda and white vinegar to cause a chemical reaction. We also learnt that it is heavier than air by playing with the balloons.

Carefully measuring out the bicarbonate
