Super Science at the Winchester Science Centre

Year 5 had a fantastic time at the science centre yesterday learning all about space as part of our "Space academy" topic.   In the morning we took part in a workshop where the children had to make a rocket,  fill it with different amounts of water and predict how long it would take from take-off to landing.  The winner was the team who got the closest prediction. Well done team Red Dwarf!!

We then visited the planetarium and took a tour of our galaxy, learning lots about how far away each planet is and what they are made up of.

Finally, we had some free, hands-on time to explore some of the 100 exhibits.  There was just jot enough time and we want to go back!  Thank you to the helpers who made the trip possible.

Top trump-tastic!

Nightingales have been working hard at creating our very own set of dragon top trumps, using text and images in Powerpoint.
We looked at a variety of top trumps and picked out the features we liked. We chose our dragon categories and drafted our ideas. We now are in the process of making these on the computers. We can't wait to try them out!

Owls fantastic start to Year 5!

What a great start Owls class have had to their learning journey in Year 5!  We have begun using the laptops to create our own space themed games, creating human sentences to help us with our grammar, making sundials to tell the time, using role play and "talk for writing" actions for our writing and much, much more.

Year 6 Science

Year 6 have been learning about evolution. This toilet roll timeline helped to show them how old the earth is! Along the roll significant events in evolution were marked, such as the age of the dinosaurs and the beginning of humans.

Kingfishers and Puffins make a great start to school life at Bitterne Manor!

We have very much enjoyed welcoming the new children and parents into Bitterne Manor over the last two weeks!

We have been busy exploring our classrooms and making new friends! Our favourites have been playing with the bikes, sand, water, blocks, dressing up, drawing, construction, listening to stories, finding out more about each other during circle times and lots of singing!

We also enjoyed becoming secret spies and exploring the rest of the school!

Please have a look at our photos!

Democracy at Bitterne Manor!

Pupils had the chance this week to vote for their House Captains. All the Year 6 children who put themselves forward, read a speech about why they should lead their team. Some of them even gave out stickers! A big well done to all of them! The children then had 1 vote for who they wanted as their leaders. A huge well done to our new House Captains:
