Come Dine with Us

This afternoon the Year 6 children not at PGL have put on an AMAZING 3 course meal. They prepared and cooked, puff pastry pizzas for starter, vegetarian bolognese with homemade garlic baguette for main and chocolate cheesecake with ice-cream and strawberries for dessert.  They went to a lot of effort decorating the classroom and laying the table to create a lovely ambience....we even had a fake 'real fire' (on the smartboard!) Well done guys, it really was delicious. 10/10!

Joining the Stampede...!

Look what arrived at school today... a Zany Zebra from Marwell Zoo! We are participating in the Zany Zebras scheme for 2016. For 10 weeks from Saturday 16 July 2016, a zeal of Marwell’s Zany Zebras will gallop through the streets of Southampton creating a fun, family friendly trail for all to enjoy. Bitterne Manor will be joining in with our own Zany Zebra contribution. This is the same team at Marwell behind the hugely successful Go! Rhinos of 2013 and Marwell’s Zany Zebras promises to be even bigger and better!

Come Dine With Us!

With some of our classmates away at PGL, those of us staying at school are preparing a 3 course meal which we are going to serve to invited guests on Friday afternoon.

Nightingales become Archaeologists

Today, Nightingales were visited by Tricia from Creative Histories, who led us on a Stone Age journey!
We started off by thinking about how long ago the Stone Age period really was, by creating a human timeline.
We then thought about all the things that a Stone Age person would have had with them when they were buried, reflecting the things that they would have had in their life. Some of us tried on some clothes, and all of us were able to handle the artefacts, drawing them in our log books and labelling them. ALL of us became Master Historians by asking questions about the objects and comparing them using Venn diagrams- Tricia said that it was very unusual for a whole class to achieve this- well done Nightingales!

In the afternoon, we took part in 3 activities- learning about food, ochre cave paintings and discovering artefacts by digging in sand.

We had a brilliant day- thanks to the team from Creative Histories for making it so fun!

Fun at Osmington!!

Mr Adams and I had a great day visiting year 6 at Osmington Bay today and YES...I took the rain!! They had great pleasure at laughing at me and Mr Adams getting very wet from the heavy downpour! The children are having an amazing time and have achieved so much. The giant swing, which they did yesterday, has definitely been a favourite. They did climbing today and the zip wire - lots of children conquered their fear of heights! Tomorrow is raft building... So lots of dirty washing is going to be coming home!! I was also put on bedroom inspection duty!!! I'll let you be the final judges...

Super home learning!

Owls have a fantastic display of Home Learning Projects in the classroom showing off their creative and imaginative ideas.   The children have been busy making Victorian toys, games and dolls. Some of them got into role as a Victorian child when they wrote a diary, and others chose to research facts about the Victorian era.  We are looking forward to finding out much more about this time period in our learning this term.
